Millions of Muslims are joining together around the world to celebrate the first day of the Islamic holiday Eid-al Adha. The celebration, also known as the 'feast of sacrifice' commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim - also known as Abraham to Christians and Jews - to sacrifice his son before God stayed his hand. During the three-day holiday - which begins today - Muslims slaughter livestock, distributing part of the meat to the poor.

What I find interesting is that this celebration is about Abraham’s willingness to be obedient to God’s will and sacrifice his son. In my Bible, the son is Isaac; in the Muslim world, it’s Ishmael.

For the historical record - *every* ancient religion did blood sacrifices until the time of Christ. Christ’s atonement ended the need for them among those Jews and Gentiles who accepted that belief; hence Christianity is the first religion without blood atonement.
When we lived in Nepal, the Hindus did a once yearly blood sacrifice and spread blood, not just on an altar somewhere, but on everything that moved - including taxis! And if there was a special need, a chicken would be sacrificed occasionally at other times.
Further comment: should the Jews rebuild their Temple (as the orthodox Jews and dispensationals believe they should), they will also begin blood sacrifices again.
Yep, they co-opt all of God’s promises to the sons of Abraham,Isaac, and Jacob and apply them to the sons of Ishmael.
