I guess I must misunderstand you. You seem to be implying that they are safely making a stand after they retired, protecting their military pensions. Most of those who have retired, did so before Obama took office. But even so, if it were you, would you purposely endanger your retirement that you had worked 30 years or so to secure? I dare say that very few would, and if you would, I would say that it would be and unwise move.
Celebrities now take a chance on speaking out on political matters as well, I can say with certainty, that they are Americans and have the right to say whatever they want...but it has consequences. Many stars of stage and screen do not get my hard earned dollars for their political or social beliefs that they used their platform to espouse. So many wait to the end of their career to say such things. Wise people keep their opinion to themselves when they are vying for the public dollar, like actors.
I think the same thing is true for any profession. Keep your mouth shut in the business workplace, and keep your personal life, personal.
Kaspernick just stepped on his di#k, and I will not watch a 49er game from now on until he apologizes, he is financially penalized by the 49er organization, or he leaves the team. Football is an American sport, and respect will be shown, or I will not participate with my wallet or my viewing.
That is the way I feel, and I bet, how many others feel.
