I would think if that did happen that would be the end of North Korea as a “functioning” country.

Test #4 was a failed boosted fission bomb. Maybe this time they did it.

Gulag 16 if the road designation is any indication at all.

Also a small installation about 1.5mi south of the epicenter.
Interesting, too, that quake profile reports state the Depth as “0 km”

This website says 5.3 Richter equates to 90 kilotons of exploding TNT.

I can't say much for the credibility of this source, but this is from Twitter: ‏@DWSAviation 16m16 minutes ago #BREAKING Mil Aircraft continue to depart and arrive in large numbers @ Osan. Flights are are securing UHF and VHF radios with encryption.

In this totally unrelated story...

"Russian River Runs Red, Prompting
Regulators To Open Investigation"

"Russian river turns bright red"

"And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and
fountains of waters; and they became blood."  Revelation 16:4

Probably enriched uranium. If they had plutonium I doubt it would be only 30kt.

Nobody has exploded a U235 bomb (Little Boy type) since the 1950s (AFAIK)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun-type_fission_weapon#Comparison_with_the_implosion_method

All bombs since the 1950s are implosion type using Pu.

The reason is because U235 bombs are just too unstable and dangerous to handle.

News to me. Recall that the Hiroshima bomb didn't have a prototype tested first, as it was felt to be so reliable.

Unless there are details of the internal geometry such that it is easier to have an accidental supra-critical mass (though not dense enough for a sustained chain reaction), with a consequent lethal flux of gamma radiation in the near vicinity.
