It is a very great pity that the long and illustrious career of Phyllis Schlafly has been capped by an extremely misguided opposition to reforming our system of government to bring it in line with the original intent of the Constitution by employing the means provided by the Constitution itself.

By way of example, in the video in which she argues against an Article V convention, she cites the danger of gay rights being enshrined. In the short time since she made that video gay rights have been enshrined and have become the law of the land. In effect, we have had a constitutional amendment but we were never given the process. She also fears loss of gun rights but she perhaps would have been better informed had she considered that gun rights will likely go the same way as opposition to homosexual marriage, the Constitution will be amended, gun rights will be eliminated, but it will be done by forces over which we have no control.

Most of the nitwit news talking heads couldn't even pronounce her last name properly. They repeatedly refered to her as Phyllis Schaffley.

Let an Article V in the door and all you are talking and more will happen just that much faster. MHO. Phyllis was the last of a unique breed, and regardless of her stance on Article V she deserves all the credit for holding to her principles to the end. The country is hovering around 28 States at the moment, who have passed resolutions leading to an Article V call. I don’t think we are going to get too much closer to the 34 necessary for the call unless Hillary wins the election. If she does I have no idea where things will go other than extremely south of where we now are. If Trump wins, an Article V will not be in our interest IMHO.

Phyllis was correct. Left will use Article V to jam their new world order global government down our throat and make us choke on the Bill of Rights which will be eliminated. Our Republic will be destroyed. All well and good to have your rosy view of Article V, but it can go off the rails and destroy us. The powers that be will not go down easily and will use Article V against us.

I quite agree with you that Phyllis Schlafly is a credible person who has staunchly held to her principles, which explains why my first sentence of my reply extolled "her long and illustrious career." The pity is that she is wrong now.

There are not 28 states calling for an Article V convention on the same issue. One of the few things that most critics of Article V do not understand is that the Washington establishment, Republican and Democrat, oppose the Article V movement precisely because it aims to cut their power and restore it to the people and to the states. Therefore, when the matter comes to the House of Representatives to fulfill its duty to "call" a constitutional convention it will use every ruse conceivable to avoid doing so, as it has done historically. This demonstrates the difficulty of passing any amendment because, even before we get to arguing amendments, we have difficulty even getting into an amendment process. The difficulty of passing a constitutional amendment is evidence that those who fear such amendments do not understand the process.

The reality is that 13 state legislatures out of 99 can stop any constitutional amendment. I repeat, 13 state legislatures from different states out of 99 state legislatures can stop a proposed constitutional amendment. There is no reason to believe under these circumstances that anything will "go south."

Whether Donald Trump is president or not has virtually nothing to do with the Article V process. The president plays absolutely no role, has no control, has no input.

Your Constitution is being amended daily by stealth, by bureaucrats, politicians and judges and you have absolutely no control. Please see my first reply.

As to a runaway convention or some sort of deleterious result for conservative, constitutional principles, please see my reply #10.

It all depends on the “RULES” my friend. And the rules will only be written after the call and seating of delegates. The first rule that will be up for grabs will be the one you think you can depend on. I think based on evidence from rules practice by at least one pro Article V group we might get down to something on the order of 29 States to ratify vs the present 38. How about 26 or a simple majority to cause some concern? If you think leftists, communists, democrats, socialists and every other ist and ism are not going to flock to the sound of Article V, you better think again.

If we the people fail to find sufficient folks to turn the Congress around we are doomed. I believe before we are doomed events will create a means whereby the right decisions will lead the country back on its Constitutional track. Due to the fifty fifty political/ideological mix in the country Article V cannot do it with any degree of safety. We depend on what is on the books NOW. Allowing a convention to mess with what is our safety net, does not appear to be sound advice and your comment regarding differing resolutions by the 28 States is just one more reason I believe we are not going to get to the number 34.

In this case the Presidential “Election” has everything to do with Article V. A particular winner IMHO will negate what is perceived to be the need.

Ten years ago I had the opportunity to hear Phyllis Schlafly give a lecture at a women’s college near Atlanta. There was a protest before the lecture and then all the protesters marched into the lecture hall. The students were incredibly rude and disrespectful. But Schlafly lectured for an hour and answered questions for two hours.

She was 82 and yet had the energy to stand for 3 hours in front of this very hostile audience. Strong in character and strength.

After the lecture she signed my 1964 paperback copy of A Choice Not An Echo.

The edition page shows: First Edition...May 1964 (600,000 copies); Second Edition...June 1964 (1,000,000 copies); Third Edition ...August 1964.

Phyllis Schlafly – President, Eagle Forum

Phyllis Schlafly is the author or editor of 20 books on subjects as varied as family and feminism, nuclear strategy, education, child care, phonics textbooks, and the judiciary. Her latest books are The Flipside of Feminism and No Higher Power: Obama’s War on Religious Freedom. She has written her monthly newsletter called The Phyllis Schlafly Report since 1967. Her syndicated column appears in many newspapers and websites, her radio commentaries (now totaling 7,800) are heard daily on 500 stations, her radio talk show is heard weekly on 90 stations, and everything is available on her website www.eagleforum.org.

Mrs. Schlafly is a lawyer and served as a member of the Commission on the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution, 1985-1991, appointed by President Reagan. She has testified before more than 50 Congressional and State Legislative committees on constitutional, national security, and family issues.

Mrs. Schlafly is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Washington University/St. Louis, received her J.D. from Washington University Law School, and received her Master’s in Political Science from Harvard University. She received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Washington University. She was named one of the 100 most important women of the 20th century by the Ladies’ Home Journal. The mother of six children, she was the 1992 Illinois Mother of the Year.

Phyllis Schlafly helped to invent the conservative movement in 1964 by selling 3 million copies of her first book A Choice Not An Echo. Then she helped to invent the pro-family movement in the 1970s by bringing thousands of new people into the political process to defeat the so-called Equal Rights Amendment. In a 10-year battle, Phyllis taught the grassroots conservatives how to win despite the opposition of three Presidents, nearly all public officials, 99% of the media, and even Hollywood.

Phyllis Schlafly is America’s most articulate and successful opponent of the radical feminist movement. She has appeared on virtually every national television and radio talk show and has lectured or debated on more than 500 college and university campuses. Mrs. Schlafly is the founder and president of Eagle Forum, a national organization of citizens who participate as volunteers in the public policymaking process.

When the publisher of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat presented her with the Woman of Achievement Award in 1963, he said: “Phyllis Schlafly stands for everything that has made America great and for those things which will keep it that way.”

President Ronald Reagan gave Phyllis Schlafly this tribute at a national meeting in 1984:
“Eagle Forum has set a high standard of volunteer participation in the political and legislative process. . . . You’ve been out front on so many of the most important issues of our time. . . . Your work is an example to all those who would struggle for an America that is prosperous and free.”

Very true, life can be confusing that way. I had a great uncle who was very rich but very mean. Everybody hated him and of course he lived well into his 90s. My Dad used to say this about him: he can't buy his way into Heaven and he's so mean that even the Devil doesn't want him, so he just hangs around.

Reminds me very much of Soros.
