Boston’s Labor Day (Mayor Walsh’s administration forcing private firms to use union shops?)
City Journal ^ | September 4, 2016 | By Steven Malanga

Martin J. Walsh’s union background figured prominently in his successful 2013 campaign to become mayor of Boston. The union-leader-turned-politician raised millions of dollars from labor and promised “to make Boston a place where dreams come true for every child and every person.” A rising figure in the Democratic Party, Walsh claimed in his speech at the party’s July convention that he stood “as a living example of Hillary Clinton’s vision for an America where everyone gets a fair shot.” Now, however, Bostonians are wondering whether Walsh and his administration may have been working hardest to make their city a place where organized labor gets the fairest shot.

In what the Boston Globe has described as a “slow motion” scandal, federal prosecutors have indicted two members of Walsh’s administration, including the head of the city’s office of tourism, Kenneth Brissette, for demanding that a music festival hire union labor in order to obtain a city permit. Investigators are exploring whether members of the Walsh administration may have strong-armed other employers into hiring union workers. . .

“.” A rising figure in the Democratic Party, “

Wash is a jerk-———and proof that the Dems are in trouble if he’s a rising star.

Always looks rumpled.

Maybe we should all look for the non-union shops. Plenty of them about and usually less expensive.
This jerk must have plans that require lots of dough from the union slackies.

Why would anyone ever think that this wouldn’t happen...Unions were, at one time, probably helpful in improving the average workers life. However, once they realized that they held some power over people, they went berserk with power....power is money and union bosses make plenty of it....they have become symbols of crime and corruption and some of the current unions are worse than the old ones AFSCME (I think) is among the worst EVER.

I met this guy once. He is an old school politician in Boston. Former union guy. Not interested or aware of anything outside the city limits. Amazing that a pudgy Irish hetero male would still get elected in Boston, but I guess that since most of the left live outside the city limits (Cambridge, Brookline, Sommerville) that it was still possible. He won’t be rising above the position of mayor. A poor speaker, he is about as intelligent as a bag of rocks...
