UPDATE: Daily Mail Retracts Story Alleging Melania Trump Was An Escort

That was fast: hours after being sued by Melania Trump, the Daily Mail has retracted and apologized for a story they published in August that claimed she worked as an escort. Melania Trump is seeking $150 million in damages in a defamation case.

In their apology, Daily Mail stated that the article was intended to be about the rumors surrounding Melania's past and the possible impact on Donald Trump's presidential campaign, and about how Melania Trump was an escort. The publication apologized for "any misinterpretation" that led to people believing that Melania was an escort.

To the extent that anything in the Daily Mail's article was interpreted as stating or suggesting that Mrs. Trump worked as an 'escort' or in the 'sex business,' that she had a 'composite or presentation card for the sex business,' or that either of the modeling agencies referenced in the article were engaged in these businesses, it is hereby retracted, and the Daily Mail newspaper regrets any such misinterpretation.

The Daily Mail newspaper and MailOnline/DailyMail.com have entirely separate editors and journalistic teams.

In so far as MailOnline/DailyMail.com published the same article it wholeheartedly also retracts the above and also regrets any such misinterpretation.

The Trump campaign has continued to insist that all modeling work done by Melania was "legitimate."

It is unclear as to if the lawsuit will proceed.

A retraction is not sufficient. An front-page apology is in order.

Settle out of court for $100,000. Take the money and give it to St. Jude’s Children hospital?

Wham!! Black eye for the lying DM. So much for their ‘intended rumors’ “BS story”.

I don’t believe it’s true, but a lot of low and mid level models and hopeful actresses do escort work.

It’s actually quite common in the modeling biz.

The paper rolled the dice and came up snake eyes.

Editor’s hands should be set ablaze on video, then cut off.

Not his hands. Let the punishment fit the crime. /sarc>

Lame, very lame.

Don’t let them get away with it, Melania. All of big media needs to be put in their place, and you may as well start here.

In their apology, Daily Mail stated that the article was intended to be about the rumors surrounding Melania's past . . . and about how Melania Trump was an escort.

You would almost have to try to word an "apology" that awkwardly. Someone who didn't know better might think the apology was repeating the allegation that Melania was a hooker.

That's no retraction... blaming the readers for "misinterpretation" is a weasel response.

I hope she wins millions from those creeps.

Good idea though St. Jude’s could use a hundred million too!

I think the Gawker deal now has all these news pimps running for cover.

Included in the defamation suit should be all the repulsive Dem rats that went on TV commentary shows and parroted the allegation .

We need to root out each and every one of them ( there were a few ) and turn their names and the vid evidence over to the Trump campaign .

I would love to see these cretins start getting sued into silence .
