Having been around most all modern fighters at one time or another at various distances other than the F-35, I have to say the F-22 is far louder than any F-4.
Watched a Hawaii ANG F-22 doing an improv airshow off Ko Olina beach six years ago and was stunned how loud the engines were. Figures, they put out far more thrust than the J-79 of the F-4.
The afterburners on the older jets like the F-106 and all were fun as they came on all at once, giving you that great bang in the gut. New ones are all progressive and ease up to full volume.
