Yep. Prior to Election 2000 the major media always slowed GOP states in blue and Rat states in commie red. Dating back decades. Evidently after some media collusion the color designations were switched, and it’s remained that way ever since. At this point most people either don’t know, don’t remember, or don’t care.
I had wondered about this too. They did it right under our noses. Why I don't know unless it was to confuse the public or the leftists didn't want to be associated with Communist red....

The incumbent president's party was blue. The challenging party was red.
Gore was Democrat, so he was blue in 2000. Bill Clinton was president.
Bush was red as the challenging party.
There was so much red state/blue state talk after the election that it stuck after that. It's an acciednt of history, not a conspiracy by the NYT.

Actually, the colors used to change every election . One year the Republicans would be blue and the dims red, the next election it would reverse. Suddenly, the colors stuck at red for r and blue for d.
The media knew that if the colors stuck at red for d it would be too definitive of the d agenda... communism.
