Of course not, but Trump's tariffs do mean a lower standard of living for American consumers who are used to buying the best quality for the lowest price regardless of the source. That's the free market and it works. Tariffs never were nor never will be the answer because tariffs do not address the CAUSE of business fleeing America to begin with which is THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
What drives business elsewhere are higher costs (and, therefore, higher prices, and, therefore, lower demand) forced on business by federal minimum wage, federal regulations, federal protection of unions, and high federal taxes. Get rid of those things, and America will be in a competitive position with the rest of the world just like she used to be before the feds got their ugly mitts on our economy.
Nevertheless, Trump is basing his projections of Mexico "paying" for the wall by expecting enough import tariffs which American distributors and consumers will actually pay.
You are looking at the situation with half a brain. Funny how you totally disregard foreign states SUPPLEMENTING the production of products undercutting American products. Think about China devaluing her currency to undercut our production costs. You have one shoe on, so put the other shoe on and take a balanced look at the problem. Yes we do need lower taxes and far less restrictions, rules and regulations, but we need additional weapons...like tariffs...to use when the other side doesn’t live up to their agreement and in other words CHEATS without us doing anything about it. That has been going on far too long.
