A survey of 3,760 adults by the Pew Research Center, a Washington, D.C.-based nonpartisan think tank that examines trends and issues shaping the country and world, found that social media was the favorite place for those age 18 to 29 to get information about the upcoming election.
How does Steven Sirianni get news on the presidential election between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump?
He heads to Facebook.
Its really nice to get a wide array of viewpoints from different people, the 23-year-old Utica resident said. At least with getting so many different viewpoints on Facebook and being able to watch the debates on YouTube, you can form an educated opinion more quickly than trying to watch different TV stations or read different newspapers.
Facebook, Twitter and other social media has become the go-to place for people political or not to post views, opinions and articles about the upcoming election. It also allows campaigns and others to post links to articles and other media about their campaigns.
"Now you can communicate directly with millions of people in whatever way you want, and you can put it in whatever context you want," said Phil Klinkner, professor of government at Hamilton College, about social media during elections.
A survey of 3,760 adults by the Pew Research Center, a Washington, D.C.-based nonpartisan think tank that examines trends and issues shaping the country and world, found that social media was the favorite place for those ages 18 to 29 to get information about the upcoming election.
Those getting political news from social media in other age groups, however, drops off sharply the older you get, the study found:
* 15 percent of 30 to 49 year olds.
* 5 percent of 50 to 64 year olds.
* 1 percent of those 65 or older.
Cable television, meanwhile, was the most popular source of news for people age 65 and older, according to the study.
(Social media) is where people are getting their information more and more and where theyre expressing themselves more and more, Utica-based pollster John Zogby said. Television news is for the believers. But for people who want to express themselves, express dissatisfaction, learn from others what theyre thinking, its mainly social media.
Reaching out
Using social media is nothing new for presidential campaigns.
Candidates already were experimenting with YouTube and posting videos in 2008 and 2012, according to the Pew study. But in this years presidential election, social media is playing a larger role than in past elections.
In January, the Pew Research Center found 44 percent of adults reported learning about the current presidential election from social media, outpacing local and national print newspapers.
The study also found that in July, almost a quarter of adults said they turned directly to the posts of Trump or Clinton for news and information. That was more than those who looked at campaign websites or emails from either candidate.
Interesting ...
Not good for the Dems, I’m thinking. Too many chances to escape the gatekeepers.
Social media... oui...
Heaven help us...
See. You guys think i’m crazy (and you’re right, but hat’s besides the point) but I hit twitter HARD every day.
Colin from San Fransisco? Bam!!
BLM? Bam!!
Don Cheadle? Bam!!
Cnn, abc, cBS, nbc? Bam! Bam! Bam!
Hit them back hard and fast.
There are a number of breitbart folk on twitter, one being Adelle Nazarian, who is a great reporter.
I send her left wing news to refute because she has a following and the ear of Breitbart.
I GET my ammo from FR and use it on Twitter.
No youth vote, no victory for hillary!!
BTW, I told BLM they were a terrorist organization and they weren’t happy.
Told a Clinton foreign policy consultant to go #### himself after he told Adelle to go ### herself!!! Told a Lady to! Creep.
The responses i got were not nice, so if I disappear, I dont know, search the usual Clinton dumping spots. :)
Why get ‘news’ from the MSM when you know they’re in the tank for one party?
ROFLOL !!!
AND MY TWITTER TAG IS MY REAL NAME!!! :)
I'm pretty confident few capable of critical thought need Fox or CNN to tell them what's happening with this loser leadership/Clinton. The Internet provides a million times more data/information real fast.
The networks are fast becoming the realm for the easily led, the ignorant and technology challenged elderly.
What makes you think the gatekeepers aren’t supplying the entries?
red
It’s bad because it is based on biased “trending” formulas, personal bias of those in charge, and most importantly content by users on facebook is suppressed, your friends don’t see all of your posts in their feed - even if you “opt in” you’ll only see all of the posts from about a dozen people you are interacting with).
That doesn’t even touch upon the posts/accounts that are deleted or suspended because the libs don’t want dissent. Violation of standard? It is a questionable unit of measure that they use.
That's what everyone here needs to do.
Get out to twitter, facebook, local comment sections, national comment sections....write comments
Many people aren't getting their 'news' from MSM news - much is being gleaned from their social media feeds and comments under MSM articles.
The only ones that are reading and learning here are us.
We need to bring this info out to THEM.
ABSOLUTELY!!
And we have allies there. Like I said, Adelle Nazarian is GREAT to contact to get word out.
We’ve spoken a few times. She’s a stand up gal from Breitbart.
Some “foreign policy expert” for hillary told her to go #### herself.
I TORE into him. Would LOVE to meet him for a nice chat about politics.
She could use the help.
And isn't that a shame.
Social media had to happen. But that doesn't mean it's a good thing.
Free Republic IS social media :>)
Without the internet and social media...we’d only have the MSM.
Thank you @Drudge_Report @Cernovich @StefanMolyneux @RSBNetwork @Breitbart @LibertarianBlue @mitchellvii and many many others!!!
Also thank you FR!
And Zuckerberg had to admit they manipulate all of it.
I think your doing the right thing. Thank you much!!!!
Information is freedom.
I think your doing the right thing. Thank you much!!!!
