From day 1 Trump has said that he is flexible and that he is a great negotiator. His negotiating style is always to start farther from his real position.

Why are both some supporters and some opponents now acting surprised as if he is changing who he is? He is still the same great flexible negotiator. Right?

Classic “Overton’s Window”, as (ironically) popularize by none other than Glenn Beck! You stake out a position that many will find far beyond the pale and then, when you pull back a bit, the recipient feels incredibly comfortable.
