Confrontations reveal Obama’s nuclear deal having little effect on Iran’s behavior

A pair of dangerously close encounters between the Iranian and U.S. navies in the Persian Gulf this week have raised fresh questions about Tehran’s intentions, a year after Obama administration officials hoped the much-touted nuclear deal would moderate the behavior of the Islamic republic and its military.

Iran’s military is going to “warn” and “confront” any foreign ships entering its territorial waters, the nation’s top defense official said Thursday, after four Iranian fast-attack craft buzzed the guided-missile destroyer USS Nitze in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, and the USS Squall, a coastal patrol ship, fired three warning shots a day later to deter boats under the command of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard at the northern end of the heavily trafficked waterway.

Pentagon officials called the Iranian craft’s behavior “unsafe and unprofessional,” but the challenges on the high seas point to a bigger diplomatic headache over what Mr. Obama sees as a crowning achievement of his presidency.

I disagree with the contention that the nuke deal has had "little effect on Iran's behavior." The deal has clearly encouraged Iran to act far more belligerently toward us than they have in a long time. Perhaps since the hostage crisis in '79. Especially now that they've banked the $1.7 billion.

Mr. Obama sees as a crowning achievement of his presidency.

I'm sure he does. From the perspective of someone (Obama) who quite obviously despises America, Israel, and the entirety of the Western world with a passion equal to that the most crazed jihadis, what's not to like about a deal that 1) makes the world's leading sponsor of Islamic terrorism $1.7 billion richer, and 2) makes it easy for them to continue their nuclear and ballistic missile development programs?

Even if Trump wins and nixes the deal, Iran got what it wanted -- the money and the development time. Which means Obama got what he wanted as well.

It’s why they have “Don’t feed the animals” signs at the zoo.

On the plus side, that movie about his date with Michael is getting rave reviews from the critics who are already in mourning for his blessed departure.

I agree with you. Increasing Iranian belligerence should have been expected.

Obama has encouraged and enabled Iran

Before the Obsma deal, Iranian leaders had isolated the country and they were running the county into the ground and had just about bankrupt it due to sanctions and its spending on terrorism and development of insanely expensive nuclear weapons ballistic missiles

Obama has thrown Iran a lifeline to keep its state sponsored terrorist programs and revitalize them

A quick study of scriptures is all that is needed.

Search for “the sons of Ismael” and therein are character traits briefly and succinctly described.

Did anyone seriously think that giving in to belligerents would make them less belligerent?

Obama validated and rewarded their behavior. What other outcome could there be?

Moderate? It has encouraged them!
