With an ally closing its doors, Evan McMullin has no clear path to ballot access
Washington Post ^ | August 23, 2016 | David Weigel

Better for America, the group that attempted to entice a #NeverTrump candidate into the presidential race by promising him mass ballot access, has folded after falling short.

"While polling continues to show that the electorate is dissatisfied with both candidates, and believes the country to be on the wrong track, the opportunity for BFA to influence this election cycle has diminished over the summer months, and BFA will therefore end its candidate recruitment and ballot access efforts," the group explained in a statement.

The problem I see is that 25,000 people will try to walk in and do a write-in-ballot for the guy....but write Earl McMuffin because they couldn’t remember his name.

We should start a Vote-Earl-McMuffin campaign sticker episode....just for the heck of it.

He was just a Clinton ally doing a favor for a friend. It wasn’t a serious thing.

I thought Utah was the only ballot they needed to stop Trump.

LOL! I'll be surprised to see this goofball get more than 25,000 votes combined in the four states where he qualified: CO, IA, LA and UT.

I'll bet he does best in Colorado since they have the most stoners of those four.

Egg McMuffin only needed 275 petition signatures to get on the Tennessee ballot this week, the deadline came and went, Egg failed to get 275 signatures. Hell, my dog could get 275 signatures. By like I’ve stated all along, Egg is absolutely no threat to Trump, anybody that would vote for Egg would have NEVER voted for Trump anyway, they would have either sit out the election or voted for Hillary or Johnson, so ironically Egg would probably help Trump.

It's odd that the right-wing #NeverTrump supporters didn't get behind Gary Johnson right away.

Of course I don't agree with many of his positions, but the position of the #NeverTrump group led by the National Review is that Trump is such an extraordinary menace that desperate measures are called for.

Gary Johnson added William Weld to his ticket, so the "desperate ones" have had the option, since July of merely supporting a ticket comprised of not one, but TWO, GOP Governors, both of whom served two terms and left office without major scandal.

But this was also not good enough for Bill Kristol et.al. Why?

The main anti-Trump talking point of #NeverTrump is he's a bad person - narcissist, sociopath, bigot, etc.

OK, well Gary Johnson and William Weld are not. I mean it's an emergency and we have very plausible alternative here, why have they not supported them?

One starts to think that the NeoCons really do require absolute fidelity to their (((main issue))) as table stakes, and are not merely well-meaning Republicans scared of a uniquely frightening nominee, as they pretend.

Already forgot about him. What a pathetic embarrassment this is for him and any associated with the effort. And to think this claims competence as an analyst. Should be fired.

I think that the #NeverTrumpers thrive on being dispossessed. That way they get to claim not only the martyr card but the “Insufficiently conservative” (no suitable candidate) card as well.

I say let them wallow in it!

One of two candidates are going to win. Trump or Clinton.

If Clinton wins, she can start a nuclear war with Red China, and the Dems and the lefties are going to stand with her, and half the Republicans will go with the flow.

If Trump wins, and goes crazy, half the Republicans (or more) will join all the Democrats to shut him down. If he tries to launch nukes at the chicoms, he might well be impeached and convicted. So, even if you believe that Trump is so awful, the downside potential is limited.

The reason many of the most virulent anti-Trumpers are willing to risk a Clinton presidency is they are afraid a Trump presidency will succeed on his terms, not theirs. As Trump doesn’t have an intellectual framework to hang his hat on, everything will be up for grabs in the Republican Party should he win, and the Establishment types don’t think they can regain lost ground after such a reset, because they are NOT well liked, nor respected, and the smart ones know it.

“I’m a Romney/Kristol Straw Man in what will certainly prove to be a completely futile effort to draw support from the hated Trump”

Ballot deadlines had already passed in many states.
Egg McMuffin should have known better than to listen to Mitt Romney.

Everyone should know better.
