N.C. AP Voters in tightly contested North Carolina have seen the presidential candidates and their surrogates a lot this summer.

What helps make the state such a political hot spot is that voting begins there before anywhere else.

Election officials begin mailing ballots Sept. 9 to any registered voter in North Carolina who formally requested one. That's the earliest in the country and 60 days before the Nov. 8 election.

What does none mean? NY is gray and i’m getting an early ballot due to health condition. (Dont want to take the chance that the 8th is an off day for me)

I know we’re going early this time. Undecided? At this point, ahem, how the hell can anyone be undecided. No, srsly. If they are undecided now, don’t bother to show at the polls since you obviously are incompetent.

I'm not sure, but it may mean NY has early voting only for those with specific reasons/needs (like health).

Some voting happens well before Election Day

And some happens after, depending on how many the Democrats need to steal a close election.

In the United States, an absentee ballot is a ballot that the voter records and casts at a location other than the designated polling station on Election Day. Typically these ballots are mailed, though some states provide provisions for emailing ballots, faxing ballots, or delivering them in person to a designated location.[citation needed] Typically a voter must request an absentee ballot at least a week before the election occurs. Each State’s Secretary of State or Director of Elections is in charge of the election process, including voter registration and absentee ballot requests. Balloting materials may be sent via the United States Postal Service without prepayment of postage for members of the Armed Forces, members of the U.S. Merchant Marine and U.S. citizens residing outside the territorial limits of the United States and the District of Columbia and their spouses.[23]

Absentee voting by mail is allowed with no excuse in 28 states, and with an excuse in 22. No-excuse permanent absentee voting is allowed in 4 states. Early voting in person is allowed with no excuse required in 31 U.S. states, with an excuse in 3, and not at all in 16. The District of Columbia requires an excuse for both early voting and absentee voting.[24]

Voters (usually) mark their ballots, which may be an optically read ballot marked with a pen or pencil, or may be a punched card ballot. They then mail the ballot to the state, or may bring the ballot in person to a designated location.

Each state has different laws regulating when absentee ballots must be counted, and who does the counting. Most states count absentee ballots on Election Day which can continue for several days after. The latest deadline is 10 days after Election day (for Washington, D.C., and for overseas absentee ballots sent to Florida.)

American citizens who are overseas, including active members of the military, are covered by the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act that, among other things, provides for a Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot which may be used in place of absentee ballots provided under state laws. The Federal Voting Assistance Program is a government program that assists such voters and exercises other authority under this act. This has been supplemented by the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act.

You are getting an absentee ballot correct? That isn’t necessarily early voting
but rather a way to vote if you can’t be there on election day.

There is much potential for Fraud with absentee ballots.

Democrats favor it.

1/2/13: MASSACHUSETTS: Stephen “Stat” Smith: absentee ballot fraud

“According to a Dec. 20 statement from the US attorney’s office , Smith allegedly submitted fraudulent requests for absentee ballots, then cast those ballots on behalf of voters without their knowledge. Prosecutors say Smith also knowingly delivered absentee ballots to ineligible voters, knowing that their votes in his favor would be fraudulent. Smith was charged with two misdemeanor counts of deprivation of rights under color of law. He faces up to two years in prison, and prosecutors will recommend a 6-month sentence, according to his plea agreement, which also requires that he vacate his seat in the Legislature and prohibits him from seeking another elected office for the next five years.” Martine Powers, Everett legislator, charged with voter fraud, vacates seat, Boston Globe, Jan. 2, 2013.

Thanks for the info. I received my new address voter ID card and waiting on the absentee ballot.

Trust me, if I didn’t get it, and it was an off day, I’d pop a few extra advil and go vote!!

They have to do it early. It takes time to exhume dead people and get them to the poles.

What does none mean?

Since PA is also gray, I believe that you can still request an "absentee ballot" with a reason but the ballots are not counted until at least election night.

Why don’t they call it ‘Election Month’ instead of ‘Election Day’??

It’s simply an invitation to fraud.

That’s just it, the dumbest 10% of voters supposedly decide all national elections. They base their vote on non-rational reasons and not any type of consistent political reasoning. Like the perceived popularity of a candidate, their physical appearance, if they are good at debate technique or made a flub. So no pol running for office is ever going to say they don’t want the mouth breather swing vote, stay home or vote for the other person. It’s actually pretty grim when you think about it: that no matter the result, good or bad, lib or con, dem or pub, the dumbest voters actually decided it for their own nutty reasons.

So the debates at this point in the political process are just kabuki theater trying to sway the swayable dumbest 10% or so of voters.

So North Carolina is first in line for voter fraud, and liberal policies. Who knew.
