China eyes artificial intelligence for new cruise missiles

China is eyeing the use of a high level of artificial intelligence and automation for its next generation of cruise missiles, a senior designer was quoted as saying on Friday.

"We plan to adopt a 'plug and play' approach in the development of new cruise missiles, which will enable our military commanders to tailor-make missiles in accordance with combat conditions," Wang Changqing of the China Aerospace and Industry Corp told the state-run China Daily newspaper.

"Moreover, our future cruise missiles will have a very high level of artificial intelligence and automation," Wang added.

"They will allow commanders to control them in real time manner, or to use a fire-and-forget mode, or even to add more tasks to in-flight missiles." China is already a global leader in the field of using artificial intelligence in missiles, Wang added, without elaborating.

President Xi Jinping is overseeing an ambitious military modernisation programme, including developing stealth fighters and building aircraft carriers.

That has rattled China's neighbours, several of whom are engaged in territorial disputes with it. The United States is also wary of China's growing assertiveness.

The first Chinese cruise missile with Artificial Intelligence is launched!

After thinking about its future (cruise awhile, then play Kamikaze) the CM does a 180 degree turn, drops its warhead at home base (strictly to gain extra range, you know) and flies to California.

Once within radar range of the US coast, the CM begins broadcasting:

“I surrender. I want Asylum!

I want to see SpaceX and learn to go to Space!”

(if I ca’t get that gig, send me to Disneyland to become a Ride or to the closest EAA chapter to become ...).

My first thought was, I wonder if this means the Clinton administration wont have anything to sell to them.

During the first traitorous self-aggrandizing Clinton administration China couldn’t get an ICBM off the launching pad without it blowing up until bags of cash were brought to the Oval Office by Chinese agents and Bernard Schwartz and Loral Corporation were sent over there and fixed all their problems with above top secret USA technology,

The Russian SS-N-19 Shipwreck anti ship missile is said to have a rudimentary AI system and its been around for 3 decades.

Key word: rudimentary. A more sophisticated system could actually be much safer. Or much more dangerous.

Don't ever think the Chinese are stupid. Even Bret Hart wrote "For ways that are dark and for tricks that are vain, the Heathen Chinee is peculiar."
