This campaign reminds me constantly of the 1980 Reagan/Carter campaign.
Reagan is a warmonger, he will start a world war, Carter is 20 points ahead of him, blah, blah, blah.
Then in October, Reagan was trailing Carter by 9 points.
The day before the election, the media declared the race was “too close to call.”
I lived in California back then, and the media called the election for Reagan at 3:00 PM Pacific time.....before my family and I had a chance to go to the polls.
I had a big smile on my face as we showed up at the polls, and I tried to stifle that smile when the lady at the polling station complained about the media calling the race before the polls closed.
Bottom line....Reagan carried 44 states.....a landslide victory.
I know the demographics have changed since then, and Reagan was facing an incumbent, but this race reminds me a lot of 1980.
Monday evening, Election Eve. Jummah and Roselyn finished campaigning on the west coast and climbed aboard AF-1 to fly back to Georgia to vote the next day. Just before takeoff, their advisors came onboard and informed them that it was already over. That the polls showed a landslide for Reagan.
