I really thought the Egyptians had gotten past this hatred being endemic and cultivated by the elders. When their President Sisi threw the former Muslim President Morsi in jail and crushed the uprising of radical islamics, I thought that trend of enlightment would continue. I guess not all at once.
Before Morsi etc, I recall in polls of muslim nations, Egypt was one of the more anti-American (which I take as a marker of general radicalism) ones.
