SAN DIEGO -- A 2-year-old girl was drowned in Whittier before her body was found in a duffel bag as a man and woman tried to cross into Mexico at the border, a San Diego prosecutor said Friday.
SNIP
A preliminary investigation revealed Hartley tried to enter Mexico with Becerra when they were stopped by Mexican customs agents. Becerra fled the scene, and Hartley was detained with the duffel bag.
Authorities did an X-ray of the bag and found the child's body inside. Not long after the discovery, authorities took Becerra into custody and turned her over to U.S. authorities.

What a lovely couple /s
[[Why would they tote the body around?
Why not, at least, bury the poor child and be done?]]
Could be Santa Muerte cult related.
Some of them are into child sacrifice , if so there was probably something they wanted to do with the body.
Trying to hide the body. Didn’t think the border would be a problem? They should have flown in to mexico. TSA would never have found the body.
So now we are at the point where the only people that get stopped at the border are the ones heading to Mexico.
I was picking up a little occult vibe from this, you’re probably right.
Yes. Mexico has been like that for some time. They care who comes in and out of country.
2 million dollar US bail , each !
Stay classy San Diego !
Wow! Couple of winners.
I hope they burn.
If they had driven their car through the border they probably would not have been caught. Few cars are inspected by Mexican customs. If the car is stopped the inspection is cursory. Mexico started inspecting pedestrians with luggage a few months ago. I hate to think about how many murder victims have been successfully taken to Mexico for secret burial.
the child in the bag was not their child
The suspects knew the child and the child’s parents, the prosecutor said, but would
not say whether the couple was taking care of the child or were caretakers.
If they were caretakers, they got some ‘splainin’ to do:
” approximately two years old, died from a “residential-type drowning.” An autopsy determined the tot also showed signs of malnutrition, dehydration and trauma, “
Probably not.
I used to go to Mexico a great deal but I have HAD it with the Mexican customs. I'm tired of the bribery, laxness, tardiness, waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and in endless lines.
Mexican customs make U.S. customs look like super stars.
My husband and I lived in the middle east. Now THERE are some very odd customs. But, that's a h o r s e of a different color.
