Advocacy groups have exposed shocking allegations of human rights abuses -- many against children -- inflicted on asylum seekers detained by Australia at a remote island in the South Pacific.
Nauru is an independent country northeast of Australia with a population of approximately 10,000 and a special economic and political relationship with Australia.
HRW and Amnesty International allege that the abuses have gone on unchecked because of how difficult it is to access the remote island. "Journalists in particular face severe restrictions on entry, with an $8,000 non-refundable visa fee and a protracted application process," the report states.
Refugees on Nauru often face delays or denial of medical care, even for life-threatening conditions, according to the report.
The report claims that sexual assault, violence and harassment are also widespread.
Thousands of leaked incident reports from Nauru, published by The Guardian Australia earlier this week, appear to show scores of alleged abuses ranging from inadequate access to medical or mental health care to allegations of rampant sexual abuse. More than half of the leaked incident reports involved children.

The media needs to be held to account on this stuff.
I’m sure these same advocacy groups are sticking up for christians in Germany who have to now hide their bibles from asylum seekers, amiright?
Did Bill Clinton have to pay $8k to get there?
Exactly. I suspect this abuse is perpetrated by SOME refugees against others. Let’s insert BY Muslims AGAINST women and Christians. There, it makes a lot more sense.
HRW and Amnesty International are both Soros groups with absolutely zero credibility. Both are strictly left-wing propaganda groups.
One of the enterprises founded to replace the phosphate mines was the detention center for maritime asylum seekers bound for Australia. I'd wager that most of the problems are from the migrants themselves considering the demographics are big on those who follow the Religion of Peace.
