The Anti-Trump Right's Sad Quest for Respectability
American Thinker ^ | August 8, 2014 | Jack Cashill

Posted on 08/12/2016 7:42:37 AM PDT by Hojczyk

I have been praying for the wisdom to understand the lace curtain, anti-Trump right – the Weekly Standard, National Review, Commentary, even The American Spectator. But it was not until I saw the Cato mailer that my overriding sentiment crystallized. These people are pathetic, deluded, fearful. They are frightened someone will think them vulgar or nutty or, God forbid, racist. They are the "pussies" Clint Eastwood warned us about.

Instead of advancing our embattled causes this past year, they devoted much of their time to writing gleeful Trump-bashing editorials. The common core of these editorials might be distilled as "How could you all be so stupid?" The "stupid" include not only those who supported Trump in the primary, but also those of us, like myself, who supported Trump after our candidates fell by the wayside.

Willfully oblivious of recent history, the lace-curtain crowd fail to see that if their chosen candidate had been nominated – say, Jeb Bush or Scott Walker or Marco Rubio – the media would have customized an attack strategy to take down that candidate just as savagely. Even if Carly Fiorina or Ben Carson were the nominee, the media would have somehow managed to portray either of them as "unbelievably racist, misogynistic and homophobic."

The only respectability they’ll ever receive is from Satan. These people are actually enemies of America - plain and simple. They know damned well that IF they are successful in hurting Trump, Hillary will be elected.

ENOUGH SAID!!!

I don’t think they are looking for “respectability” at all.

They are simply flailing around like a drowning man hoping to snag something, anything, to support the status quo. They will never admit it but deep down they realize that over half the country disagrees with them, and agrees with Trump. So they are frantic, panicked, and desperate.

The good news is, none of their antics will convince any sizable fraction of Trumps supporters to abanton him. If it could, they’ve have been gone by now.

If you remember the old “Gunsmoke” series, Trump is kind of like Marshall Dillon. Not everyone liked him or even respected him, but they knew he was the man they needed to protect what was important to them.

Follow the money.
None of these outfits survive by marketing to the public at large, or even conservatives in general. They are paid for by a few wealthy patrons, and therefore serve their interests.
Follow this back to their patrons, and their patrons opinions, and you will understand them perfectly.
It was always so with all these think tanks and little magazines. The difference back then was the substansive interests in the conservative/Republican coalition were aligned, but aren’t so now.

This article is right on the money. If conservative Republicans don't want to vote for Trump, they don't have to vote for him. OK, that's fine. What I have been mystified by are people such as William Kristol, who are overwrought when it comes to Trump, and by Henry Paulsen, who wrote an article (in the WSJ ?) about how he's voting for HRC. In Paulsen’s case, does he really think HRC needs his vote? I think the author of this article is right on the money: the vocal NeverTrumpers are afraid of what other people will people will think. Yes, these people are wimps.

What is astonishing is the number of people, like apparently O’Rourke, who think that you can tinker with the system and make it work. It’s like the old E-type in your garage missing a piston a carburettor a the transmission and three of the four wheels. It is FUBAR. You can’t even hook a donkey to it and drag your stuff around, and yet that is what O’Rourke wants to do here.

Money.
Just figure out who owns them and you will understand them. They arent flailing, they are just doing their small bit to justify their funding.

Like the rest of the NeverTrump crowd, the Cato people will be smug about their irrelevancy.

They are motivated by immediate and particiuar interests rather than true interests.

They are liars and hypocrites!!! IF they really cared about the down ballot candidates, they would have fulfilled their oaths and worked with the Trump campaign, and ALL the real live people who supported him and are voting for him, to elect the first Republican President in years. But NO!!! They want a candidate that will lose legitimately, like Republicans are supposed to do, so they can keep their personal power and associates safely in place for another four years -— who cares what happens to the Country in the mean time. There is no honor among them -— and they, and ALL of their extended family members, must NEVER again receive the public trust.

the vocal NeverTrumpers are afraid of what other people will people will think.

There is some of that, but I think they are more worried that they will have to think. They will have to exercise their grey matter to figure out what comes next. What are the priorities, which means figuring out what we stop throwing resources at. And that means a lot of butt hurt for a lot of folk, including a lot of them. Why give up a comfortable gig when you might not get such a good one next time around?

Ike realized in 1953 that the US would not devote the resources to undoing the Russian occupation of Eastern Europe in large measure because we did not have such resources. Instead he focused on what we could do - stopping them from going any further. That worked.

That is the real problem - wimps, sure, but it is lack of grit and fear of hard work and hard thinking. It requires imagining how you are going to let the whole middle east back down and get out because the whole mess was beyond the US's vast resources to fix. Not able to fix Iraq, we then broke Libya, Syria, Egypt and a whole lot of other things.

And these guys are all bought into it. These are the guys who think GHWB was a wimp for getting in, kicking Sadam out of Kuwait and then getting out again. Well, prudence is a cardinal virtue for conservatives on Russell Kirk's list of 10 principles.

There are a bunch of people that what to move up in the Republican Party. Too many Romney/McCain people at and near the top. It’s peer pressure. People are afraid of saying something pro-Trump because they want to move up in their RNC career. I feel it all the time when I go to RNC events.

Eastwood sees life clearly....he knows a crook when he sees on, apparently many Americans want to put their country in the hands of known political thugs, Bill and Hillary Clinton the power and wealth mad pair, closely akin to Sodom and Gomorrah....Our enemies are thrilled our allies dismayed. Take heart America....Thumbs UP For........

... the Weekly Standard, National Review, Commentary, even The American Spectator.

All neo-conservative publications. The New American is the only true Conservative publication available today.

This is what the GOPe crowd misses. They want everything to be polite, the waiter at the Bethesda Country Club asking "Mr. Curtainlace, can I get you another scotch and soda." And the left sees that and makes GOPe play by those rules. Well, you want to slaughter a pig, perhaps you do have to wrestle with the pig in the mud and get dirty. Do you want this kind of fake - don't those stodgy republicans look nice in their museum display case - dignity or do you want your country back, a country that makes sense and operates under the Constitution.
