Pastors sue Illinois over gay conversion therapy ban

A group of pastors is suing Illinois over a law that bars therapists from trying to change a minor’s sexual orientation.

The lawsuit filed Thursday in federal court seeks to exclude clergy from the ban that took effect Jan. 1. The lawsuit contends the prohibition shouldn’t apply to clergy because it violates free speech and religious rights.

Illinois is among five states with bans on so-called gay conversion therapy for youth under 18. Laws in California and New Jersey have withstood legal challenges, but an attorney for the pastors says the prohibitions in those states did not include clergy.

Critics of so-called gay conversion therapy argue it’s traumatic and psychologically damaging.

I am thankful they are taking action.

Same sex attraction is a temporary response to trauma. Removing the trauma is removing the ss attraction. Happens every day.

The Protestant attempt to remove the trauma is weak. The best way to remove the trauma is using both psychology (emdr) and sacraments (confession). Removing both the emotional pain and the demonic influences of ss attraction is called “reparative” and repair work.

But it’s not traumatic and psychologically damaging for someone to be a homosexual, going against the physiology and biology and social norms????

Logic says that when a person is allowed to easily and with support play out homosexual and transgender fantasies, fantasy and reality become blurred. Logic also says that when reality and fantasy become blurred, remediation might be in order.

It's a problem in so many aspects of western "civilization" today. Reality and fantasy have become blurred, nobody has to grow up, and there's no accountability for many behaviors.

Way to much nuanced gray area and analytical thought. Where love leads we must follow. Even if it takes up the wrong way in a one way tunnel.

[The Protestant attempt to remove the trauma is weak.]

Do you believe GOD only responds to Catholic-based therapy? I beg to differ.

Thank you for your good question. No, I do not believe that God responds to Catholic projects alone. I hope He responds to everyone’s projects.
