Who’s “we” ? His fellow Canadians? How does that make sense?

I read a book on a gold mine murder which took place up in Yellowknife, NWT back in the 1990s. What the RCMP did was basically set up shop in town and started questioning everyone who was even a remotely possible suspect without worrying about being sued for profiling or some other bull$#*+ charge.
Once the got the list down to a manageable number of people, says two dozen or so, they would keep questioning or tracking them.
Eventually, the number got whittled down to a half dozen or less and one of them would break, usually with clues that the bigger group of suspects would arrange to leave, often secretly, because they had gotten tired of the repeated questioning and tracking.
I'm guessing this Aaron guy was a lot easier to find because he left more clues. Being a dumb$#*+ loser who left threats around certainly didn't hurt the investigation either.
To a Muslim, even a convert, the only "we" are his fellow Muslims.
Democrats and Muslims have much in common.
