At this point in time, both.
Americans and Westerners of all types stupidly believe in "democracy." Democracy is a result, not a cause. It comes from having a commonly accepted culture and social norms, rule of law, and ordered liberty and responsibility with civil society around limited government. These are all the things that leftists, marxists, progressives and their crony capitalists are destroying in America now.
Yes - wrong religion and color.
Safer to be in South America or New Zealand/Oz.
Amerika is going 3rd world.
Fortunately for us, Europe is our canary in the coal mine.
Imagine if Germans could conceal carry. It would be a lot different. In the good way.

Only a German would use lack of punctuality to justify fleeing the country. While he will gain personal freedom in Russia over rule-obsessed Germany, I doubt he will find an increase in punctuality there. His taxes should drop and he will be safer from the moslem flood. Street crime is another issue.
Maybe he will report back to us.
Yeah, people would show up on time if the alternative was being shot.
And looking into this story it is not obvious that Russia is prepared to handle this right; Putin should have used this as a PR opportunity and instead the German family seems to be still dealing with bureaucracy issues.

Strange days.
I seem to remember, rather recently, the story of a German family who homeschooled their children. The German govt. threatened to take away their children if they did not send them to the govt. school. They were homeschooling for religious reasons. They asked for asylum in the U.S. and the Obama administration said no.
Perhaps we could, if not for all the illegals and Muslims that BO insists on giving priority treatment.
Yeah, much better for us to bring in illiterate third worlders into our country to contribute. What exactly they will contribute, I don't know.

Skilled workers tend to be good for the economy -- so we may yet see US and Russia competing for them.

I suspect we’ll also see the Volksdeutsche moving back to Silesia and Pomerania, if they promise to be nice to the Poles this time.
It is a sad day when Germans have to flee to Russia of all nations.

White Christian? A land which gave the world Tchaikovsky, Tolstoy, Chebyshev? It’s the people which populate the land which gives rise to its culture and civilization. National Review conservatism has tried to push the BS that conservatism, even America, is merely an idea. Yeah, okay, good luck with that. And if we just spent more money on pupils in Detroit it will turn Detroit public schools into Eton and Harrow. Conservative judgments on other countries based on its political or economic systems is, ultimately, just a more intellectually-respectable form of multiculturalism.
