The US Brings Out The Big Guns In The Pacific Amid High Tensions With China

As part of the Continuous Bomber Presence mission in the Pacific, the US has regularly kept bombers stationed at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, but in the last few days the fleet of aging B-52 bombers has been replaced with newer B-1 and B-2 bombers.

The bombers were positioned in the Pacific by US Strategic Command (STRATCOM), which commands fleets of bombers, many of which are nuclear-capable, to maintain stability and deter potential threats.

Though these deployments are routine, they are likely to raise eyebrows in Beijing, where China has defiantly ignored a ruling from the Permanent Court of Arbitration at the Hague by continuing to destabilize and militarize its man-made islands in the South China Sea.

“Our strategic bomber force routinely operates around the globe and with our regional allies and partners, and this deployment is one such demonstration of the US commitment to supporting global and regional security,” said Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney, STRATCOM's commander, in a statement.

“Bomber training missions ensure crews maintain a high state of readiness and proficiency and demonstrate our ability to provide an always-ready global strike capability, whenever and wherever we are called to do so.”

In June of this year, the B-52s were deployed to Guam alongside the USS John C. Stennis and USS Ronald Reagan carrier strike groups in what was largely seen as a show of force. The B-52s' deployment coincided with a squadron of electronic-warfare planes, EA-18s, at Clark Air Base in the Philippines.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to give Taiwan 2 fully loaded boomers?

So have the B52s been rotated out, or are they now sharing the tarmac with the Bones and Spirits?

And add in that Viet Nam just forward-deployed a bunch of missile launchers to their own islands, and now those launchers are close enough to reach the “islands” China is working on.

I hope those B-52s are out of range from the PLAN’s SU-27s.

Mygosh, my knowledge of military strategy is somewhere on the scale between non-existent to extremely minimal. But with that, I've always thought that a war on three fronts is extremely foolhardy.

1. Mideast

2. Poking the Bear

3. China

4. Our Southern Border (given up without a fight)

5. Northern Africa

If three fronts is extremely foolhardy, five fronts must be suicidal

Democrats usually are the ones to get this nation into war due to their incompetence. Obama is no different.

An interesting read from gcaptain: Satellite Photos Suggest Chinese Military Build-Up on Disputed South China Sea Islands" but beware that the planes you see are "an artists conception". They mention this in the photos but there are many conclusion jumpers that don't read the fine print.

[snip]"CSIS said that apart from a brief visit to Fiery Cross Reef by a military transport plane earlier in the year, 'there is no evidence that Beijing has deployed military aircraft to these outposts.' "
"The rapid construction of the hangars, however, 'indicates that this is likely to change.' ”

Ya think?

Obama is incompetent, even for a Democrat.

I have little doubt that before he leaves office Obama still has time get us into at least a skirmish with China by misinterpreting their intentions.

War with China will be fought with bags of money under the table.

In fact, it already happened.

When they decide to take Taiwan, we’ll shout and move carriers around the Pacific, but that will be the end of it.

Just my view. It might be a different story under Trump.

I know China would win against the Vietnamese but they would probably tear China a new one for a while should they go at it. Since China would probably resort to the time tested human wave method of warfare.

The next six months are fright with peril in the Pacific. If China is going to act against the US it will be against Obama as he would probably not respond period to open aggression. Taiwan is in great danger.
