The Syrian government has sent thousands of reinforcements to mount a counterattack in Aleppo after rebels broke through government lines two days earlier, a monitoring group said.
The Lebanese Shia Hezbollah movement and the government have mobilised more than 3,000 troops and militia fighters for an attempt to recapture the areas where the rebels made their breakthrough, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
"Hundreds of opposition fighters have also arrived in Aleppo from the [neighbouring] province of Idlib to help in the expected battles," said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the group.
Hezbollah's battle-hardened fighters have provided crucial support to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's overstretched and exhausted army.

Hope the Syrian army gets those rats fully contained again
If Aleppo were to fall to Assad, the only remaining secure supply line to the barbaric jihadist rebels from Turkey would be through Raqqa, the capital of ISIS. Erdogan must feel that without a direct intervention by the Turkish military, Aleppo will soon fall. This no doubt is why he is trying to get close to Putin to see if he can work out a “deal” and somehow preserve his dreams of a Turkish caliphate.
What is the condition of Aleppo? I think I saw photos of it some time ago. all blown up, not many buildings standing.
Putin would have to be nuts—and he isn’t—to trust Erdogan. And, further, to let a Caliphate consolidate under him.
I don’t see how (or why) Putin would want to keep ISIS alive. Erdogan—perhaps yes—because they are Sunni, and go after Christians and Kurds alike. Obama—well who knows?
Putin won’t lay his cards down until after the US election.
Always please remember; it has been every Tsars dream since Peter The Great to reclaim Constantinople, the Bosphorus, and the Dardenelles.
Erdogan may not know it, but he is lunch for the Bear.
It's my dream too.
If this actually works, it would be retroactively called a good strategy.
And a lot depends on Erdogan .. right now SAA is within 3 km of the Turkish border in Latakia -- will he interfere on the Islamist side this time or not?
Real good question. All the photos we see are the areas where the fighting occurs, those are indeed totally ruined. But Aleppo is a large spread out city, and fighting is not happening everywhere.
“What is the condition of Aleppo?”
From the pictures I’ve seen (some on Yahoo Images), Aleppo has a very Stalingrad-esque look to it.
Looks fine to me. Could use a little coat of paint.
Looks like Detroit.
Sounds like just the time to nuke the whole place.
Do it from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.
;)
Thank you for info.
Looks like they found a way to deal with ever rising real estate prices.
To stand in the nave of the great church of divine wisdom and ask God for forgiveness. My dream too.
There as an explosion so big it looked like a small nuke.
It’s on Youtube.
It had to have taken a long time to bury all those explosizes - It looks like it lifted an entire city block hundreds of feet into the air.
So yeah, Aleppo is rubble.
