LAS VEGAS A group of researchers presenting at last week's Def Con hacker conference showed how they were able to overwhelm or deceive Tesla's sophisticated sensors to make a car hit an object it would normally detect in its path.
"Normally the car will not move. However, when we jam the sensor it moves," Chen Yan said in a talk on Friday while playing a demo video of a Tesla Model S attack.
"It hit me," he added, to audience laughter.

Do not doubt that various government agencies, of various countries, are far along on the technique.
Anyone hear the story on how Testla drive a heart attack victim to the hospital?
Sounds like a liberal PR attempt to me...

My buddy was literally dying (ruptured colon) and drove himself from work to the hospital. Got a ticket on the way for speeding. True story.
Of course on the way it ran over 4 pedestrians, and rammed into the wall of the hospital.
If they were going to use this to assassinate someone, they wouldn’t be advertising it at DefCon so every ITSec professional in the world is aware of it.
I suppose it could get him close - if he’s already in the parking lot and has his foot on the gas, er, I mean, “go” foot switch.

I just got another 1994 GM wagon to replace my defunct Caprice. This time a Buick Roadmaster. Now that I’m in the south, I think I can keep it going indefinitely.
Not really something for them to joke about considering someone just died in FL. These auto driving cars make NO sense to me. I love technology, but this seems really stupid. Computers crash, simple technology in cars go wrong. Cars are more deadly every year than guns.
Sweet!
Saw one last month.

Someday, riding in your government-driven car, the windows will roll up, the doors will lock, and your car will deliver you to prison.
They make sense if you treat them like cruise control, as another tool to help augment the driver. With regard to drowsy driving they seem like they might help, for obvious reasons.
That being said, I drive a manual 1990 Miata, with as close to no computers as I can manage financially.
Well there’s no doubt that statists welcome the “connected” car. It provides many of the same “benefits” to government as mass transit.
There was an episode of the Twilight Zone that was just like that.
I drive a 1994 4x4-a Toyota 4Runner-no GPS to tell anyone where the hell I am-I keep the one on my cell phone turned off, too-and no other fancy crap to malfunction other than power windows-and since more people out here drive old 4x4s-trucks and SUVs-than drive newer passenger cars, there is a mechanic shop just 7 miles up the road-and he will even come to your place for an extra $20.00 and a 6 pack of his favorite beer-I love living in BFE...
What happens if you collide a Tesla with the Hadron Collider?
Don’t fool yourself.
You’re on FR.
You’ll be among the first to be rounded up.
