[snip] To participate in one of the four general-election debates (three for president, one for vice president), candidates must be eligible for the presidency and "appear on a sufficient number of state ballots to have a mathematical chance of winning a majority vote in the Electoral College, the commission announced last year. They also must have a level of support nationally of at least 15 percent as "determined by five selected national public opinion polling organizations, using the average of those organizations' most recently publicly-reported results at the time of the determination."
Johnson [Libertarian] is hovering around 8.8 percent in national polls, according to RealClearPolitics average, whereas Stein [Green Party], when included in polling, is at around 3.8 percent. Despite being below the 15 percent cutoff, there might be some flexibility in getting someone like Johnson on stage. Frank Fahrenkopf, McCurrys Republican counterpart and co-chair on the commission, told CNBC last week that the commission may consider giving an inch to a third-party candidate if he or she is close enough to the cutoff point.

They are doing this in the hopes that Trump will back out, and the debates will be cancelled. Hillary does not want to debate Trump.
Once again rules are “flexible” when it suits those in charge. In this case, it dilutes Trumps ability to go one on one with Hillary.
I will be surprised if they let hillary debate.
Well, let’s EXPLODE on them and let the republican guy AND the dem guy know it’s not happening.
He is there SiMPLY to bash Trump as is this new piece of ### conservative running.
Why is stein only at 4? I was hoping bernouts would flock to her.
I’m gonna go for a walk because i am getting too frustrated at the news today.
Is it for Stein, McNuthin, or ya doesen’t haz ta call me Johnson?
How will he be on the ballot. If he is how about the Green Party too. This is BS.
they said they’d tweak things a little to get him on
Like I said, I’m going for a walk before I explode from all the news today.
“They are doing this in the hopes that Trump will back out”
Why would they think Trump will back out? Hillary is the one to watch with that ploy.
This Johnson idiot is nowhere near 15% - system is rigged!
Why would having a 3rd candidate cause Trump to back out?
He had no problem when it was 11 to 1 or whatever.
They want to give Hillary the center.
RNC termites. They never stop. They’d rather have Clinton.
They’re despicable beyond words.
Does it matter? Trump is so far ahead of anyone right now, he has proved this over and over again in the year he has been on the campaign trail...there is NOTHING they can throw at him that he can't handle...and he ended up knocking out 16 candidates in the primaries, what the problem with 2???
If that’s the case, Trump ought to pay for an infomercial on all the networks!
> This Johnson idiot is nowhere near 15% - system is rigged!
Well done! That’s exactly how to counter this garbage!
“It’s a rigged system”
Johnson is a little over half the required...Ridiculous......
Rules-—we don’t need to follow no stinkin’ rules. This Pavlovian exercise will make it easier for the sheeple to stomach a Hillary victory when she actually only receives 40% of the popular vote. She’ll “win” by a “smidgen”, but that’s enough.
” the commission may consider giving an inch...”
Newspeak for “we’re going to ignore our own rules and cheat so Her Highness does not have to speak as much.”
It's all unadulterated crapola designed to screw Trump.
