Side note: I remember an episode of The Apprentice where Trump fired someone on the spot for calling himself "white trash". I thought it was pretty absurd since it was clearly self-depreciating humor, but it seems Donald hates the term.

I did not see the show but I bet it was not just calling himself white trailer trash I bet it was combined with using it as an excuse in the board room. using the term white trailer trash is as loaded as the word nigger. and if someone uses it to describe themselves it had better not be as an excuse for failure. as far as I am concerned it is best to just not use the term in anything but the informal between friends. Trump was using the forum of the tv show to recruit top notch talent and I think the last thing he wanted was for when things went wrong for his executive to call himself white trailer trash what he wanted was critical examinations for the cause of the failure and a plan not to repeat the same failure.
