WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is weighing new steps to bolster the security of the United States’ voting process against cyberthreats, including whether to designate the electronic ballot-casting system for November’s elections as “critical infrastructure,” Jeh Johnson, the secretary of Homeland Security, said on Wednesday.

In the wake of hacks that infiltrated Democratic campaign computer systems, Mr. Johnson said he was conducting high-level discussions about “election cybersecurity,” a vastly complex effort given that there are 9,000 jurisdictions in the United States that have a hand in carrying out the balloting, many of them with different ways of collecting, tallying and reporting votes.

“We should carefully consider whether our election system, our election process is critical infrastructure, like the financial sector, like the power grid,” Mr. Johnson told reporters at a breakfast in Washington. “There’s a vital national interest in our electoral process.”

Lots of attention gov't and media have made about how vulnerable US voting systems are to hackers. Does this portend a move to extend Obola's reign?

America’s Electronic Voting Machines Are Scarily Easy Targets | WIRED

America’s Electronic Voting Machines Are Scarily Easy Targets | WIRED

https://www.wired.com/2016/08/americas-voting-machines-arent-ready-election/

When people think that people think about doing something major to impact our election results at the voting machine, they think they’d try to switch results,” says Norden, referring to potential software tampering. “But you can do a lot less than that and do a lot of damage… If you have machines not working, or working slowly, that could create lots of problems too, preventing people from voting at all.”

The extent of vulnerability isn’t just hypothetical; late last summer, Virginia decertified thousands of insecure WinVote machines. As one security researcher described it, “anyone within a half mile could have modified every vote, undetected” without “any technical expertise.” The vendor had gone out of business years prior.

The WinVote systems are an extreme case, but not an isolated one. Other voting machine models have potentially vulnerable wireless components; Virginia’s just the only one where a test proved how bad the situation was.

The worst part about the current state of voting machines is that they don’t even require outside interference to undo an election. “They’re all computers. They run on tens of thousands of lines of code,” says Norden. “It’s impossible to have a perfectly secure, perfectly reliable computer.”

That’s true, but in fairness, most computers aren’t quite this imperfect, either.

so now Fed.gov will control the voting (and vote-counting) systems. Sound very dangerous to anyone?

How about this - go back to paper ballots. Voter registration ends 2 weeks before election day. Voter rolls are cleared every 8 years and citizens must re-register prior to that upcoming election. 24 hour election day, midnight-to midnight, and voters must have photo ID. Ballots must be held 10 years for auditing purposes.

And current DEFCON hacking conference attended by gov’t security agencies:

DEFCON August 2016 Agenda

Topic:

Trust, But Verify: Auditing Proprietary Digital Recording Election Systems
Robert J. Hansen, Researcher, ACCURATE

Abstract:
In 2006 the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) rid the country of lever voting machines and punchcard ballots, and gave the states enormous budgets for buying electronic voting machines.
What’s still unresolved is how these electronic voting machines are going to be audited.
Trying to keep track of many different vendors, each of which has many different machines, is like getting lost in a funhouse hall of mirrors.
Yet, there is good news.
The National Science Foundation has established a research group for electronic voting, ACCURATE.
In this presentation, an ACCURATE researcher will start talking about the thorny problem of making sure voting machines are playing fair.
Existing technologies, both proprietary and open source, will be criticized; and new technologies will be presented.

Bio:
Robert J. Hansen has a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science, Cornell College, 1998. Master of Computer Science, the University of Iowa, 2006. Chief Security Geek for Yomu Inc., 2000. Cryptographic Engineer for PGP Security, 2000-2001. Student at the University of Iowa pursuing a Ph.D. in computer security, 2002-present.

yep, the government will fix it like the FBI raiding a crooked politician’s house not to confiscate evidence for prosecution but to cover it up.

Ohcrap ...what if this is how 0bama plans to do martial law...If they see that Trump is winning...they claim a cyber attack and stop the Diebolds, panic ensues and they declare martial law. They may even cause the hack.

Jim and moderator...this important enough to send to Trump’s people. Note I correct myself, I meant when they see Trump winning, not if.

This is really damn easy:

1) Make Election Tuesday a federal holiday... Replace MLK or Columbus Day.
2) No more absentee ballots...NONE.
3) Paper ballot only
4) ID to vote
5) Mobilize either State National Guard or Sheriff Deputies at each polling location.
6) Votes counted/transported under armed guard
7) Only one physical vote per person AFTER DIPPING FINGER IN PURPLE INK
8) No busses, vans, charter busses, etc used to move around voters.
9) Felony 250k fine, 10 years in prison for voter fraud first offense.
10) Massive vote watch program instituted by both parties.

You see Brocco wants all the fraud to go his way. Can’t have any outside fraud; it all has to be inside fraud.

Wouldn’t it be too bad if all those precincts that vote 110% Rat got hacked and only turned in 70%?

How about this - go back to paper ballots.

You still have the problem of the volunteers in the back room of the union hall prefilling ballots by the stack to be added as "found in car trunk, forgot to drop off" in sufficient number to pull a losing RAT ahead. And the absentee ballots never seen by the intended voter that somehow get voted. Along with the dead and relocated voters.

Let's just do the purple thumb thing.

I'm sorry that didn't make sense. I'm talking about voter fraud since most states outlawed voter I.D. Having a purple thumb won't help with hacked voting machines.
