That is hilarious! They’re asking “the government” for reparations, not any particular person.
That’s like my local mayor, who insisted that the funding for a proposed housing project would come from the state’s department of housing, so “no tax dollars or HUD money whatsoever” would be involved.
We defeated the plan.

I live in a heavy Republican area and they used the notion that no local tax money would be used in the current development. I explained the words ‘Fungible Money’. This, too, was defeated. (This was before the housing collapse which would have left the area a moonscape had it passed.)
