Unfortunate - for the homeowner. I imagine that he might be brought up on charges - or a civil suit.
As a 15-year old kid I had a paper route. The kid down the street (11?) would always follow me and bug me. One day I had enough and told him not to follow me, but it still did.
I took off my belt and wrapped it around his wrists and hung him to a tree branch with his toes touching. I got a few houses away and he promised not to ever follow me again.
Years later I hired him as a substitute! I’m sure glad he didn’t die. Of course I didn’t gag him, but still. Stuff can happen that one doesn’t think about. Especially at 15 years old.
He probably wrapped tape and/or clothesline around his chest too and too tightly. Like you, I’m betting suffocation was the cause of death.
