Golan Druze leader rips UN claim of ‘hardship of occupation’

A leader of the Druze population of the Golan Heights disputed the assertion of a United Nations committee that accused Israel of imposing economic and social hardships on his community.

Dulan abu-Saleh, the mayor of Majdal Shams, the largest Druze town in the Golan, told Makor Rishon that the U.N. Economic and Social Council’s recent statement on the area was “a total joke,” the daily reported Friday.

Unlike other Druze populations in Israel serve in the Israel Defense Forces, the Golan’s Druze population of some 20,000 has been careful not to align itself publicly with the Jewish state, which annexed the Golan in 1981 after capturing it from Syria during the Six-Day War of 1967.

The eruption in 2011 of a civil war in Syria changed that, causing a sharp increase in the number of Golan Druze who applied for Israeli citizenship, which has been available to them since 1981.

Abu-Saleh objected to the inclusion of his native area in the UN panel’s statement earlier this month, which said that “economic and social repercussions of the occupation on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territories, including east Jerusalem and the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan.”

“I don’t understand what they’re talking about, it’s laughable,” abu-Saleh said. Druze in the Golan “don’t serve in the IDF and so far are only receiving from the state.” Referencing the war in Syria, he said: “Why don’t they condemn the horrors in Syria, where dozens of children are killed daily? Golan residents have a good life.”

He also said: “Although we weren’t included in some major cabinet decisions on budgets, when we build and make up plans we never felt discrimination. On the contrary, we always found an attentive ear.”

This is the UN you're talking about, fella. Of course they'll report you have hardships, whether or not they are real.

You know a country’s merits by its standing in the UN.

Israel, less people than the CITY of NY, and tortued endlessly by Europeans, middle easterners and the left right here.

I cannot fault Israel for giving in to international pressure, but they should have never given that land back about a decade ago?, I think it was.

They need the mother of all buffers.

When you tour Israel, you see Bedouin settlements here and there. The people live in primitive tin roofed shacks. Before you shout, "Israel keeps these people impoverished!", you should know that the Israeli government has offered economic aid for the Bedouins to have better housing, etc. The Bedouins REFUSED the help, preferring to live as they do. Some factions of Bedouins have established illegal settlements without Israeli sanction, on Israeli land. They are the subjects of a new law aimed at consolidating Bedouin settlements into other areas and helping them to better integrate into Israeli society. Some of the Bedouins are refusing to get on board with the new law, because they think they can get more of Israel's land by an illegal land grab.

Of course, the Bedouins are grist for the truth-bending A-rab "news" outlets like AlJazeera and the U.N. But ask the Bedouins, who also serve in the IDF.

I’m about as militantly pro-Zionist as they come. I want Israel to drastically increase the size of its borders. Time to corral Mohammadans into an area the size of a postage stamp. Screw the U.N. and its genocidal anti-Zionist moonbats.

Agreed across the board. Now that England has torn itself away from the diseased EU, Israel and England can be considered our greatest allies again.

But if I had to bet, I’d put Israel first as surviving.

THEY should be part of NATO, not Turkey.

NATO was from a different era. We need to truly reevaluate who are allies and enemies are. Turkey is barely a notch above Iran, a fundamentalist Mohammadan state. Those are enemies of America, of humanity and civilization.

Right again. Turkey being in NATO is a humiliation and disgrace.

We need to look out for a select number of allies and ourselves.

I think we should protect the eastern European nations because The Great One freed them and it would honor his memory. What do you think?

Eastern Europe does seem more allied with our interests (not Zero’s) these days. Contrast it with Germany, which is going to the dark side under Merkel, who is pure evil and a traitor to her country. Trump will have his hands full as President engaging in a total paradigm shift of the past 8 years, and it will require a bold and skillful Secretary of State. Perhaps Governor Palin could be that person. It would make the entire political establishment explode in unbridled rage (which is, of course, a great thing).

lol. You’re sinister. I like that!

They are MUCH more allied with our interests and it was the crown achievement of Reagan’s foreign policy.

What’s wrong with Germany? They pick the worst leaders!

From sadistic men intent on taking over the planet to open border suicide leaders.

Probably the central mistake with Germany was not allowing them to keep the monarchy after WW1. Keeping a parliamentary monarchy might’ve been a bulwark against a Hitler. Then again, with a weak leader in that era, Stalin might’ve marched clear across Europe in the ‘30s or ‘40s unimpeded.

Of course, after WW2, a good chunk of Europe hopped right into bed with the Socialist/Communist menace without missing a beat or having to fire a shot. The UK has been a Socialist cesspool since they turned out Churchill for Clement Atlee right after the war.

Despite more deaths in human history as a result of leftism than any other ideology, it still keeps on rolling. I believe it is truly Satanic to its rotten core. If only it could be outlawed for all time.

Like private ownership of firearms, the UN know far better than national populations. How could a Druze leader or American supporter of the 2nd Amendment know as much as the UN about how Americans or Druze should live.
