Reliance on jailhouse informant dooms Chandra Levy case
Associated Press ^ | Jul 29, 2016 9:14 PM EDT | Matthew Barakat

Armando Morales was a gang leader, drug dealer and a jailhouse snitch. But he was also a commanding, dynamic presence on the witness stand when he told jurors that his cellmate, Ingmar Guandique, confessed to the murder of Washington intern Chandra Levy.

Jurors believed Morales, and prosecutors obtained a conviction against Guandique at his 2010 trial despite lacking a confession, witnesses or DNA evidence. They obtained a conviction even though everyone knew that police had initially suspected another man, former California congressman Gary Condit.

But for the last five years, while Guandique was imprisoned on what was to have been a 60-year murder sentence, defense lawyers accumulated new information that cast doubt on Morales’ truthfulness. They learned that he asked to be put into the witness protection program in exchange for his testimony, even though he testified he hadn’t sought any benefit for testifying. …

Don't know if that's true or not, but I don't see how any juror with two braincells to rub together would ever trust the testimony of a jailhouse snitch, let alone render a guilty verdict based entirely on one.

I remember when this was big news right up to 9/11/2001. As I was watching the news that day, I thought to myself, “No one is going to care about this case anymore.”

There was zero evidence linking Ingmar Guandique and Levy except for the criminal informant.

The article in the DAILY MAIL online is better. Go look at that one. :-)

Condit did it or had someone do it.

Condit bumped Levy off. I have not a single doubt about it, and have thought so from Day 1.

There was zero evidence linking Ingmar Guandique and Levy except for the criminal informant.

If I recall correctly, there was the circumstantial evidence that he had attacked other women in the same park. Clearly more than this is required to prove that he murdered Levy.

Drudge no longer has the link, that I could find, so I did a Bing search. If Conditions lied under oath, I hope he can be charged. I am also surprised her mother said she did not know about the rough sex allegations. It was rumored that Condit and 1 or 2 other Congressmen had an apt they used for sexual encounters. I can’t remember who the others were. I do remember discussing the theory that she died during rough sex and he panicked then tried to dispose of her body. He was seen throwing away a watch and other items she gave him iirc. If he was involved he needs to be tried and convicted.

Gary Condit rough-sex reputation shocks mom of slain D.C. intern Chandra Levy — but she still wants to find truth about daughter

May 20, 2016

EXCERPT

Guandique’s lawyers said in a blockbuster filing Thursday that the women could provide circumstantial evidence linking Condit’s “desire to engage in aggressive sex and tie a woman up” with the jogging tights tied in knots found near Chandra’s body.

(snip)

The filing, obtained by The News, stated that Condit’s sperm was located on a pair of Chandra’s underwear, “conclusively” proving they were having an affair.

I agree with you. The first clue was that Condit was the first person to contact the FBI.

One of the last clues was that they got an anonymous tip and stopped the search in the park. The tip didn't pan out but they never went back.

So where did the search stop....just a few feet before the area where she was found.

There were more than two of them, but Condit’s closest friends in the S&M club were Joe Scarborough, KaSicko, and Bill Paxton...all of whom either didn’t run for re-election, or just resigned, after the Levy murder.
