No kidding. . .not to mention the 500,000 that died in the Civil War.
Slavery is the ultimate theft of individual liberty and individual labor, and an affront to civilized people. That slavery existed in a land founded on the concept of human liberty was a blood crime, that was paid in blood during the Civil War.
It was further paid by belated but fortunately relatively non-violent end of state enforced discrimination (a separate crime that is still depressingly common across the globe).
No individual legally held as a slave is still alive to receive reparations (if they were, it would be right and proper to pay them)
No individual who legally held people as slaves is still alive to pay those reparations. (if they were, they would have a moral obligation to repay slaves for their stolen labor and liberty)
With no individual alive to pay or receive reparations, why are we having this discussion?
