Spurred by VP pick Mike Pence, a former congressman with close ties to many lawmakers, the Trump campaign in recent weeks has stepped up its courtship of wary Capitol Hill Republicans. And the efforts appear to be bearing fruit.
The charm offensive comes after months in which Trump has repeatedly antogonized elected Republicans in Washington, and is aimed at rewarding surrogates who made the case for him on Capitol Hill while extending an olive branch to those once against him. The campaign is also working to enlist Republicans who've kept an arm's length from the former reality TV star, but are inclined to join the fold.

The change in tone suggests that while Cruz stole the show with his refusal to endorse Trump on the convention stage, the GOP convention did make some headway towards unity. In fact, Cruzs actions pushed some lawmakers, including Republican Study Committee Chairman Bill Flores, into Trump's corner.
