“Everyone I know from India seems so darn smart and well-mannered!” That’s probably because everyone you know from India, regardless of their wealth or humble beginnings, are educated and cultured. But India has over a billion people, most of whom are poor, tribal, ignorant and dumb as a bag of hammers. China is very much the same. Nothing more to add. Just an observation / opinion.

Very true observation, though. And in my experience, even the upper class who come to America are tribal and racist, though in a subtle and passive aggressive way. They're all here for the money, they stick together, and for the most part look at Americans as "others" who they have targeted for financial exploitation and little else. And they really are not interested in our constitutional issues - they don't get the freedom thing at all. I've found that Americans are far, far more appreciative and even knowledgeable of Indian culture and history and philosophy and science than Indians - the Indians want to be Westerners.

IMO.

All true.

One true story about an Indian Sikh and his journey in America.

He got a job working in Silicon Valley and he drove to work every day on his motorcycle. WELL, California had/has a REQUIRED motorcycle helmet law for motorcyclists. No ands, ifs or buts.

Well, the Sikh thought that his religion, which told him that he HAD to wear his turban, would excuse him from wearing a helmet. Hah, it's didn't. Safety trumped religion.

Long story short: he fashioned a HELMET that he wore OVER his turban. It made all the news, I think. The world LAUGHED its head off because he looked ABSURD!!
Needless to say, Mr. Sikh dumped the motorcycle and bought an automobile.

I STILL smile when I remember that story.

Wow! Reading your words was like hearing my own thoughts. Again, wow! You obviously get it. Sounds to me as though we may have many of the experiences with “immigrants”. Your comment can only be the result of experience. Too bad we can’t throw our politicians and elites into the same pit to experience the same thing. If we could, they would shut down the borders, deport every last illegal alien and enforce every anti-illegal immigration law on the books overnight. Hell, they’d probably build Trump’s wall with armed guards, machine gun towers and landmines overnight.

Just a thought.
