In a speech to his delegates that drew fierce boos and palpable anger, Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday urged his supporters to help Hillary Clinton defeat her opponent because the alternative is a danger to American society.
Donald Trump "is a bully and a demagogue!” Sanders told a packed ballroom full of hundreds of impassioned loyalists at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
“So is Hillary!” were among chants he got in return. More than once they booed when he said her name.
The Center City meeting with Sanders' pledged delegates on the opening day of the Democratic National Convention followed a tumultuous weekend in which leaked Democratic National Committee emails prompted the resignation of party chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. News of those emails, which suggested a concerted party effort to stifle Sanders’ campaign, seemed only to inflame his delegates as they arrived in Philadelphia for the convention.
In a 20-minute speech that at times sounded as if his campaign never ended, Sanders took credit for shaping the debate. “Make no mistake about it. We have made history," he told the roaring crowd. "We're not fringe players anymore."
Some had signed a petition Sunday night that has circulated among delegates that would sanction a roll call vote on the floor of the convention at Wells Fargo Center.
But any hope they may have had for Sanders breaking with the party were dashed when he urged them to line up in support of Clinton. Trump, he said, is a great threat to civil liberties and the Constitution. “Trump has made bigotry and hatred the cornerstone of his campaign,” Sanders said.
Still, some of his supporters wanted none of it.
“And Hillary has insulted us!” one man said, a common jeer.

Sanders and Hillary’s politics are almost identical on most important issues
Sanders’ voters would gladly shift over to Hillary
IF
1. she were not such a Corrupt Crooked Liar
and
2. if she had not “rigged” the nomination with DNC connivance and purchased “superdelegates”
BUT NOW..... many Sanders voters WILL vote for Trump AS LONG AS HE KEEPS EMPHASIZING that he will CLEAN UP WashDC and CLEAN OUT the Crooks.
some Bernie voters will of course still shift to Hilliary because her politics are somewhat closer to Bernie’s than Trump’s.... BUT a good, Worthwhile number of people supported Bernie because he (at least looked) more honest
Trump can capture those votes!

While I don’t agree with Hillary at all, Sanders is pretending to at least be in the same ball park with her.

One has to wonder if the DNC will allow Bernie to speak at the convention with the boos he just got from his own delegates.

Do you really think Bernie should support Hillary after finding out Beyond any doubt that the election was rigged for her? If the same had happened with the Republicans then Cruz would have had every right to do what he did.Cruz lost a fair fight, Bernie didn’t.

He lost. He fell in behind the party representative.
I don’t like Bernie, but he did what one is supposed to do when they lose to a competitor.

Because of our poor educational system, MOST Americans are unaware that the Democratic party historically was, and is, the Party of Slavery. Whereas, not one single Republican government official or elected politician EVER owed a slave!

I appreciate that, and to your point about Bernie trashing Trump, it’s despicable. Those folks hate this nation. How can a nation survive this?
Hopefully Trump’s administration will move things in a new direction and help this stuff dissipate.
