Posted on 07/25/2016 8:02:37 AM PDT by GilGil

In his first interview after accepting the Republican presidential nomination, Donald J. Trump spoke with Mark Halperin for THE CIRCUS about the week of the Republican National Convention. The interview was conducted on Friday, July 22, 2016, before the attack in Munich, the selection of Tim Kaine as Hillary Clinton’s running mate was announced, or the TV ratings for Thursday’s convention session were known. Don't miss new episodes Sundays at 8PM ET/PT.

In this wide-ranging interview, Trump discusses that he saved former primary campaign rival Sen. Ted Cruz from being “ripped” off the stage by booing delegates when he entered the convention arena. He makes his first public comments about his friend Roger Ailes since Ailes’ departure from Fox News. Trump talks about media coverage of his wife’s speech focused on several lines lifted from Michelle Obama's 2008 convention speech, but it wasn’t her fault and she "came out feeling fine.” He says his own speech was "fully checked by computer" as a precaution after the Melania flop. Trump also states that the Internal Revenue Service audit of his tax returns is still underway but he “hopes” it will be done before the election. He also pledges that Iowa and New Hampshire will retain their first-in-the-nation status in the presidential nominating process if he wins the White House and talks about his appreciation and affection for the tradition of the roll call vote. elected officials, political strategists, cultural figures, and other newsmakers.

What a perception. Trump doing this 20 minute interview from the Trump airplane. Trump is supremely confident and triumphant.

Trump was all over the news this weekend doing one interview after another. Where was Hillary? Trump is doing to Hillary what he did to Jeb. Trump mentioned in a Ted Koppel interview that Hillary has spent $102 million in ads. Trump has probably received twice that much in free media!

Notice also the Secret Service agents chit chatting and they seem to be enjoying themselves. They seem friendly with Trump’s main body guard. The Secret Service are probably having a good time working with Trump.

“Trump also states that the Internal Revenue Service audit of his tax returns is still underway but he “hopes” it will be done before the election. “

There is absolutely no possibility that Trump will release his tax returns, either before or after the election.

Agreed. They are probably slow to give the IRS what it wants so as to run the clock on the audit.

The most interesting thing about this interview was watching the security people in the background and how friendly they were with Trump’s head security guy.

Typo in article: Melania flop should be Melania flap. It was not a flop at all. The Trumps came out of it looking decent and humane.

“They are probably slow to give the IRS what it wants”

There is zero chance that the IRS has not given every crumb of data it has on Trump, his kids and associates for the opposition research file at the DNC

The IRS is a democrat support organization.

The secret service guys & gals fight like hell to get the Trump security assignment. It’s simple....Trump loves them & they love him. I remember when that Obama/Clinton, low life piece of human vermin made an attempted attack while Trump was on stage. The Secret Service had Trump covered on all four sides in about four seconds. And when DJT shakes hands and signs autographs after a rally event, they surround him...moving along with him every inch he walks. They love the guy!!!

I just loved how the $128 dress Trump’s daughter was wearing looked so much better than the $12,000 burlap sack Hillary is so fond of dressing in.

This interview is Donald Trump at his best. He is relaxed, but he pays very close attention to the questions. Not looking for gotchas, but really interested in the interviewers questions.

He is being “presidential”, yet personal. It’s like he is talking directly to you. I don’t think it’s a shtick, I believe it to be sincere, unlike fake, phony, lyin Ted.

It’s gonna be a Trump LANDSLIDE!

GO TRUMP!

The US Secrete Service has been treated very shabbily by the Clintons & the Obamas for over 16 years when you count the campaigns.

I can imagine they hate to be assigned to either.

Stories about how Shrillary treated the SS when she was in the White House for 8 years are legendary.

Pretty stupid to be nasty to those who are protecting you!!

"Trump discusses that he saved former primary campaign rival Sen. Ted Cruz from being “ripped” off the stage by booing delegates when he entered the convention arena."

It certainly was mighty fortunate for Cruz that Trump arrived just in the nick of time to save him from those angry, booing NY delegates who wanted to lynch him, wasn't it?

...

I hope that’s the case. Trump noted yesterday about how he thinks Romney’s tax returns cost him the election. He explained how Romney did nothing wrong, but the press made a big deal about a couple of things. You know the press will do the same with Trump. The tax return can’t help, but it surely can hurt. Trump’s already met his legal obligation in regards to financial reporting. He’s smart enough to know that.

There was another thread yesterday where a FReeper compared Hillary’s coat to a vacuum bag and posted a picture of Hillary and a vacuum cleaner side by side. They looked identical. Too damn funny.

What a BS comment about Melania’s speech being a flop. It was great. I hope Trump never releases his tax return.

Agreed on both counts. With over 20 million in his social media, Trump neuters the media every time.
