Nothing new. I got them regularly when I was there for 2 years from 2013-15.
You sign up with the consulate and you get these warnings.

The “imminent threat” in Jeddah is new. Mecca and Medina in the same province are closed to non-Muslims, but Jeddah is the country’s second largest city, main Red Sea port, and non-oil business hub of the country. The warning and travel prohibition for families of American diplomatic personnel basically covers the areas in the Eastern Province with some Shia (Iranian sponsored) terror groups active, and the far south of the Western Province within fifty miles of the Yemen border. But there must be chatter describing something big planned in Jeddah.

I hope every American everywhere is extra careful. I would not be surprised if State or Dot Gov gets the place wrong, as they are idiots.
I used to stay at the Red Sea Palace during my business trips. Years ago.
I guess I won’t be going back there anytime soon.
