It was Teds PAC. NE is not owned by Trump.
I know that, but both blamed each other anyway. Trump assumed that Cruz was complicit in the anti-Melania stuff being disseminated, which is why he immediately suggested in Tweets that he would drop word on Heidi.
Cruz asserted that Trump people were at least feeding the Enquirer the cheating accusations.

IIRC it was actually Rubio's team.

I heard that too. But Cruz blamed Trump. And Trump blamed Cruz for the PAC attack on Melania. Whether they believed their own accusations on one or both sides we'll never know, seeing only part of the story.

The ad did say vote Cruz.

Yup. That doesn't mean it came from Cruz.
I'm in the 3rd District, and my preferred candidate in the runoff, Mike Crane, is not thrilled with the anti-Ferguson ads (Crane's opponent) being carpeted by the Club for Growth in response to the anti-Crane ads run by Ferguson. They clash with his messaging, which is positive.

So given what we know why was Trump suppose to apologize?

Ben,
Glad you work to expose liberal bias. Stick to that as your analysis of how Cruz’ speech went over is incorrect. I have been watching convention speeches for 60 years. Cruz started well, had the audience and then disappointed them because he did not follow through on a good suspenseful setup.
He had total control of the situation and let down those that had worked with him due to bitterness.
Thanks for your time,
KC Burke

Of course it came from Cruz and was designed to provoke a reaction from Trump. They got what they wanted.

So given what we know why was Trump suppose to apologize?
In Cruz' mind, Trump's tweets about having the goods on Heidi, the retweeting of the picture of Heidi, and the suggesting that there was something to the National Enquirer story about Ted's dad, for starters. Not just with Cruz, but with everyone Trump got real personal real fast (Fiorina's face, for instance, making the whole tone more vulgar, and in some ways less pertinent)
Trump did a lot of innuendo about the earlier smears about mistresses from the Enquirer, and Cruz did a lot of standing by when people made attacks on Trump, including Melania, and blamed Trump for the lefty crazies in Chicago and elsewhere.
Personally, I think Cruz SHOULD have found a way to work it out by the convention. He didn't. But originally the question was why was Cruz behaving the way he was. I explained my understanding of it. It really became personal, not just political. Trump's behaviour towards people who are inclined towards the Cruz position set overall was exceptional over the last couple of months. Trump has earned my good will, even outside of the fact that the alternative is Hillary Clinton.

You can hold that opinion. Cruz didn't need Mair's shenanigans to win Utah, which is what the ads were aimed at.

You can only apologize for what you or those following your orders have done and you can only forgive offenses to you.
Anything else is either lying or worthless.
This is what I mean by the apology culture. It makes absolutely no sense to me.
I am not responsible for what ever delusions you might have (unless I drugged you) and you are not responsible for what ever delusions I have.
If Cruz has a beef he can take it up with the National Enquirer. Goodness knows it is not the first time they have been sued and people have won judgments against them. That he has not but seems instead to be throwing a tantrum about someone else is mildly interesting.

It heloped him over the top in WI. It wasn’t just Mar either, Romney did a public dinner where he all but called Mrs. a gold digging whore. This was a coordinate effort. The one picture about Mrs. Cruz was a nothing burger that Cruz white knighted into a major attack.

Romney and John Ellis Bush and to some degree Rubio made attacks on Trump for their own personal and political reasons. Cruz was not on great terms with any of them. I lived and worked in Wisconsin. Cruz' margin there had nothing to do with attacks on Melania. Trump's attacks on Scott Walker echoed leftist talking points (and were wrong to boot) and that until Indiana, it just wasn't Trump's strongest area.
