“...from orbiting satellites”

Exactly. And that’s been available for 40ish years...and is compared against tree ring data, which is ridiculous.

The answer lies with technology that was only been available for 40 years.

We know very, very little about the earth’s temperature record, really.

... or much of anything else where it concerns global processes on the Earth. You may recall back when they were foaming at the mouth about a big "ozone hole" opening up over Antarctica. Trouble is, they had no baseline to tell them whether or not it was normal. We really don't know, still if having ozone thin at the poles is some tragic thing caused by CFCs or whatever, or if it is related to sunspot cycles. (Which is what I suspect it actually was).

Not sure when the first enviro satellites were put up, but I used to track DMSP for the Air Force. GOES I think has been around for a while as well!

Conservation of angular momentum suggests that the atmosphere surrounding the Earth’s axes will be different than most of the other parts. Similar with the difference in tidal effects as mainly affected by the moon’s gravity as it rotates the Earth, not to mention the other gravitational effects from the other planets. Any long term climate analysis that does not take astrophysical elements into account is incomplete. I instinctively called the “ozone hole” and “greenhouse gasses” BS before I even studied any of that. (Physics)

The atmosphere over the oceans is statisticakly more important because it tends to be more dense.

A lot of what is happening with temps up there is this: Since the cold war the number of observation sites has decreased. Both the US and USSR needed a lot of weather stations in the middle of nowhere for their bombers. With the end of the cold war, the number of sites world wide have dropped by half. A lot of sites in the middle of nowhere are gone...and the sites that are left are around cities and the heat islands.

Old quote but today the socialist gods try to dupe us into thinking we can do something about it.

And what should we do? Vote them into total power, because *they* know exactly what to do about it.

The crisis changes from time to time, but the solution is always the same.

Global satellite temperature records start in November 1978.

Depending on the type of measure used, the earth is very close to 14,600,000.000 years of age. As the wise Greeks proved, the most obvious characteristic of all Planets is the pattern of their motion. Additionally planetary climate change has always been cyclical.
Predictably, the enviro assholery doesn’t know its ass from its elbow about anything within light years of real science.

If you put your weather station by heat sources you get global warming. See links.
https://scottthong.wordpress.com/2008/02/20/nasa-climate-scientists-are-blindo-morons-and-so-are-you-if-you-think-their-data-shows-global-warming/

USHNC weather stations depicted in red or orange have an estimated error rate of more than 2 degrees Celsius due to their proximity to artificial heat sources, according to a Dec. 2015 study. (surfacestations.org)

It is about 105 degrees now near Chatsworth, CA (40 miles from LA).
However about 30 miles morth past the mountains you get to Ventura where the temps are predicted to be 86 degrees but accuweather..... says currently 74
So accurate they are.

I say blast those mountains and let the cool ocean breeze thru!
