There are actually many very good restaurants in Manhattan that don’t cost a fortune. It’s highly competitive, you just have to know where to go.
I find Manhattan restaurants quite reasonable when compared to similar in DC. But there are plenty of cheap eats in NYC and really terrific food.
A lot of good and cheap hole in the wall breakfast joints as well...one can eat cheap while everything else in NYC sucks your wallet dry!
