That sounds like an act of war, or very close to it.

Something big. Multiple folks on Twitter saying tanks are on the bridge, gunfire heard. Military planes and helicopters over the city.

Link doesn’t seem to be working. I see your excerpt mentions “Ambiance de coup d’Etat.” Possibly related?

I’m seeing suggestions that this might be defensive, in response to intelligence regarding a major terrorist attack.

Turkey is really big in drone manufacture and technology.

Just a little factoid.

Wonder if Erdogan is going to wake up dead...this is intriguing.

The setup for a coup was certainly in place. Maybe Erdogan’s recent peace overtures to its neighbors were a too-little, too-late attempt to quell the rebellion.

Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it’s Istanbul not Constantinople
Been a long time gone
Old Constantinople’s still has Turkish delight
On a moonlight night

Every gal in Constantinople
Is a Miss-stanbul, not Constantinople
So if you’ve date in Constantinople
She’ll be waiting in Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it, I can’t say
(People just liked it better that way)

Take me back to Constantinople
No, you can’t go back to Constantinople
Now it’s Istanbul, not Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?

That’s nobody’s business but the Turks

Military now says it is in control of the country. Has a NATO country ever had a coup before (while it was a NATO country)?
