A Republican congressman who is considering both a bid for the White House and a campaign for governor in his home state of Indiana in 2012 made a trip to Iowa this past weekend. Indiana Congressman Mike Pence was the headliner at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition’s fall banquet in Des Moines.
The point is Pence is less terrible than family values Newt or heartless Christie on immigration; and trying to shout down pro-border critics.
Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, also expressed fond memories of Pence’s time in the House, noting that they served together on the Judiciary Committee for years.
“We’d fight the cultural wars in there together,” King said.
Pence had the brass to challenge Boehner for House minority leader in 2006.
Pence is also less terrible than Reagan and Cruz’s VP picks.
Heartless Christie?
I am a fan of Pense going back to his early congresional career. I hoped he’d be a future Speaker it he went the governor route. I assume in pursuit of the White House. He disappointed with the religious freedom issue but I also recognize they were in a tough situation and incredible pressures. He’s definitely a solid choice. He’s got a good overall track record as governor and was a very good congressman with insight on how it works. He has good relations with the current congress leadership which would serve trump well to get legislation passed.
There’s quotes out there, that when Christie gave in state tuition in 2013 to illegals he said something like Rick Perry did.
Previously way back in 2010 he agreed with Massachusetts former AG Martha Coakley that its “not illegal to be illegal”.
Pence is more or equal conservative than every gym rat (Ryan,Sasse,etc.) & every other douchebag governor (Walker, Haley...) the beltway right promotes.
Thank god he didn’t pick Rubio or Martinez or Haley or Ayotte or Portman or Hoeven or Corker or Gardner or so many horrible choices and he picks basically an open slate and even on the amnesty issues he’s not much different to what Trump said.
Steve King & Jeff Sessions approve. Who else is there that is 100% trustworthy. Vitter. I think he coule have taken a punt running with a Vitter who’s smart, intelligent & ruthless but has huge scandal problem.
Who better? Abbott.

it'll be uber refreshing to have someone in the job other than that asshat Biden.
You are right, it could have been worse—though really there’s no chance it could have been a Sasse type.
But we shouldn’t kid ourselves. Pence is buddies with Ryan and has been driven by presidential ambitions for years, however.
I am sorry it wasn’t Sessions or Fallin and I think Newt would have been better.
I am still, of course, completely behind Trump.
But so it goes.
