Based on what people get paid to babysit these days, it comes out to much more than the current min wage. A lot more.

I made .50 an hour, and .75 after midnight. I would come home with 5 bucks and think I was rich.
Baths, dinner , clean up and no sleeping on the couch.
Of course this was many moons ago. But still. I was surprised to hear her rate.

Not only that, the average girl who takes one of those jobs quickly learns she has to deal with very real adult conflicts of interest that she never knew existed. The parents want her to report on the kids she’s sitting and the kids don’t want her to. That means she’s got to figure out how to please both the parents and the kids, sometimes a very difficult job. If she figures out how to do it, she’ll be able to make top dollar. Working construction is physically a lot harder, but the HR aspects of sitting can make it emotionally a lot harder.
My daughter has a full time job that she does in her office at home. She has a 4 year old and a 1 1/2 year old and pays a gal to come every day and watch them. The gal makes pretty good money and turned down a retail job to stay with my daughter.
