Donald Trump's political director, Jim Murphy, told House members that the campaign would focus on 17 states this fall, the Wall Street Journal reports. Included are 12 states Barack Obama won in both 2008 and 2012 (145 electoral votes) and five states Mitt Romney won in 2012. Not in the list are extreme longshots like California and New York, states Trump has previously indicated would be competitive for him.

Trump is going to have to do well in Missouri. Jay Nixon’s machine in MO is very effective. That’s how he won reelection when Obama lost the state to Romney.

Harry Truman disliked Richard Nixon, but he would be so proud of Jay Nixon!

True. I always thought that Jay Nixon would be a potential president. The man did pretty well in Missouri, with taxes before Ferguson. Missouri will be a battleground state no matter what in my opinion.

If Ferguson never happened, Jay Nixon would have been the 2016 Democratic nominee. Some Democrats know about Hillary’s baggage but are stuck with her.

The Wall Street Journal is no friend of Donald Trump.

This election is 1968 all over again. You have black riots about to break out all over the country and a white electorate from all over the political spectrum fed up being blamed for the problems of blacks. Trump will win easily and while the Democrats will publicly be upset they will privately be happy that the “Black Sheep” of their family, the Clintons, will no longer be a factor in their party ever again.

I like Trump to win a state not even on the list and be his biggest “surprise” win in November. Illinois. With Obama not on the ballot and a lot of his “homies” staying, well, home, on election day, I think it’s ripe for the picking.

My friend in MO tells me Nixon wipes his butt with the 2nd Amendment, so that’s kind of a deal-killer.

I think the so called Independents will go Trump... It is those high minded Bush/Romney/McCain .... Cruzmites that will do Trump more harm than Nixon's machine. I have read that Senator Blunt will NOT be attending the Republican Convention... So Senator Blunt will NOT be getting my vote in the August primary. He needs to learn how to pick his own lettuce.

Hillary is running ads here in Illinois, that tells me she must not think it’s “in the bag”.

Well, that, plus the fact that he’s a democrat.

I have to be honest. I wouldn’t spend too much in CA and NY. 20 to 30 points leads are real.

NJ, like I said, IS a real possibility. A longshot but a possibility.

Trump should do quite well in California.

But probably not well enough to win.
