Is the Senate going to take an official, gavel down recess for 7 weeks? Can't Obama place someone in the Supreme Court during that time, as a Recess Appointment? Have they just not thought about that, or are they going to let him choose, since we won't allow THEM to even hold hearings?

I'd hate to think they are that petty, but past practice certainly suggests they are...

The actual article is about progress on passing bills, but because Mitch has gotten Democrats pried away to vote with his Egop senators.

The statement in the excerpt is about 2/3 way through the article, after the ‘click to see more’, at the END of a paragraph. Really caught my eye though. I'll contact Sen Pat Toomey’s office to see if I can find out more.

I think they rarely go into a full recess any more. They have procedural processes they do now to circumvent recess appointments.

The Senate can dismiss without actually going into recess by assigning a couple of senators to “conduct Senate business” for at least 4 days a week.
