There's a quick scene in the television documentary Rise and Fall with a two or three second clip showing a young woman's face enthralled in ecstasy watching Hitler pass by. The voice over is part of a letter home from an American living in Berlin during the early 30's where he states "These people are insane". It appears they still are.

Polls show Obama much more popular here in the US than seems sane to me. People are hard to understand sometimes.

My Mom is 95 but clearly remembers the day in 1934 when her German grandmother received a letter from the side of the family that chose not to emigrate. It was a request for money with a photo of a cousin in Nazi uniform enclosed.

“Grandma flung the letter across the table and said `not one dime for those Nazi relatives! Didn’t Hitler put them all back to work!?’”
