Understood but what is going on with supposedly educated people who, in some cases, can use there, they’re and their in one paragraph and use them incorrectly every time? I have seen this along with other examples on FR! I used to comment on this sort of thing often but it accomplishes nothing other than to incite rants about “grammar police” or “spelling police”. My point is that most adults under thirty now don’t seem to be able to pass a fifth grade English test from my era and that includes the whites. Apparently English is, like history, no longer taught in American schools.

A simple mathematics test is even more revealing.

Yes, I have noticed that there are some who cannot say what ten percent of one hundred equals without a calculator and even with one may have trouble. They seem so amazed when I can tell them that 3/8, .375 and 37.5% are the same value off the top of my head, they think I must be a professor of mathematics or something.

What's interesting is that even students who do (or did) well in mathematics are also often baffled by such questions. Perhaps a side effect of mindless rote-learning. Student has memorized 1+2 = 3 but has no idea what 2+1 is.
Of course they do; my black co-workers hate them (and openly say so). Over the years many positions formerly held by blacks have been filled by Hispanics; the remaining blacks see very clearly that they’ve been replaced as the “preferred minorities du jour”...
One dead shooter and one in custody. But not a word as to their identity. The powers that be are keeping this under wraps u til they can get their talking points lined up. These killers are either connected to a domestic terrorist organization like the Black Panthers or islam. Or possibly both.
I agree ALL of the maladies plaguing blacks have spread far beyond the ghetto - but non-blacks still produce a number of literate offspring. I’m no fan of “Harry Potter”, but it got kids to read - and they were primarily white.
I don’t think many people understand how many ghetto folk don’t (and can’t) even read tabloids...
Before I went to bed I suspected at least two cops were dead because they confirmed two had been shot and said nothing of their condition; they really want to control the release of information for their own ends, but with the internet and cellphones that is increasingly hard to do...
I fondly remember Aunt Bee of this forum, RIP. Her efforts to improve people's writing skills bore fruit on this forum; fruit which has now fallen away. She improved my language skills and is fondly remembered with nearly every comma and period.
Speculation on FOX that is was terrorists taking advantage of the BLM protest that showed no signs of being violent. That angle needs to be examined.
Hmm... Well if the local and state agencies can’t handle things, a ‘special’ force is needed. One that supersedes all others and is at the command of the current president. That way he can send them instantly to where they are needed to administer justice and goodness for all. AND.. it just so happens that one has been ‘secretly’ training and receiving funding for several years now.

The way kids are taught in this country it’s a wonder they learn anything. A friend was telling me how mathematics was taught to his son — what they were teaching was more along the lines of “math theory”. Not necessary to teach a kid why 2 x 3 equals 6, only drill him until he gets it right. Math theory can be saved for college prep when they are older.
The thought occurred to me. She is new in this facility and I/she lives in Dallas.
