Republican-Controlled Senate Blocks Kate’s Law, Bill Defunding Sanctuary Cities
Breitbart ^ | July 6, 2016 | Kate McHugh

Posted on 07/07/2016 6:07:22 PM PDT by Freedom56v2

The Republican-controlled Senate failed to advance legislation defunding sanctuary cities and increasing minimum punishments for previously-deported illegal aliens caught breaking back into the U.S. on Wednesday, gaining only 53 and 55 votes, respectively; 60 were needed to proceed w/both bills.

Sponsored by Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Pat Toomey, bill would have stripped funding from jurisdictions refusinh to cooperate w/federal immigration authorities when arresting illegal aliens suspected of committing further crimes and work to prevent lawful deportation proceedings. Immigration enforcement advocates have called Kate’s Law, introduced by Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, “mainly symbolic,” with Center for Immigration Studies president Mark Kirkorian stating: “Reentry after deportation is already a felony and the problem is that Obama’s Justice Department seldom prosecutes offenders.”

A Mexican illegal alien who had been deported five times previously allegedly used stolen federal agent’s gun to fire few shots, one of which struck Steinle as she walked with her father July 16, 2015 along a San Francisco pier. Snip But many Republicans in Congress have adopted the deeply unpopular position that the U.S. should only go through the motions of securing the border, while at the same time importing hundreds of thousands of so-called “refugees” from hellish, war-torn countries and ramp up the inflow of Muslim immigration. This position is passionately espoused by Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan, who insists limiting Muslim immigration is “not what this country stands for” as he sends his little children to a Catholic school free from Muslim child rape gangs, sharia law, and terrorism.

The votes come as presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton promises to dissolve national borders within 100 days of taking office and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump pledge to enforce immigration law and build wall to stem the massive, lucrative flow of drugs and trafficked humans across the U.S.-Mexico border.

OK, I stnd corrected, Paul Ryan is not “against” Kate’s Law, however, he just is not interested in pushing it...

Paul Ryan: We Have Not Pushed Kate’s Law Because We Do Not Want to Clog Up Jails with Illegal Drunk Drivers

http://www.breitbart.com/2016-presidential-race/2016/06/16/ryan-havent-passed-kates-law-dont-want-clog-jails-illegal-drunk-drivers/

It is related and important because he could have provided momentum for the Senate to pass the bill. People need to be informed.

Sorry, I don’t support open borders cheap labor express Paul Ryan.

No. Your seeing it right. Some people are still invested in politics. You see it for what it is. Kabuki Theatre. Great point. The Girl was Murdered a year ago and now they get to doing something about it. These clowns cant sway the few votes from the other side proves they cant get the job done. However in Jan. God willing we will have someone that does things vs talking about them. Go Trump. ☺

I couldn't believe that idiot said that. Time is short too, only a month away until his primary.

This is a misleading headline. The democrats voted this down since the democrats wouldn’t vote for cloture. The democrats killed this bill not the republican controlled senate.>>> terrible reporting. i tried to figure that out as well.

Thank you for the reply, and I, like you, cannot wait for America and Americans to start winning again. Because all Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser! (Patton of course)

This isn’t the first time they voted on Kate’s law.

It’s rigged to look like that. If there was 60 votes, a republican would have deflected to defeat it.

How about if we clog up "deportation camps" instead.

Retread his comments in the brietbart story. He doesn’t oppose the law, he wants to enforce our current laws and said it just needs to be drafted properly. The House is not the place where this funding law had to start. He had the votes in the house to pass. The senate was where the troubles lay

How about this for an idea: We let the selected village idiots go to Versailles on the Potomac, let them make any law they want and we all just ignore them.

We’ll even make special uniforms for them. Beanie Caps with a propeller for “representatives”; dunce caps for “senators” and clown hats for bureaucrats. Everybody will wear flippers for swimming in the cesspool. Lumberjack shirts with pink tutus. Top it off with a 4’ long Pinocchio nose.

Unfortunately, we’ll still have to pay them - one red cent.

My question is, why did they add the “sanctuary city” issue .. they should have known that the Dems would not agree to that ..?? San Francisco being one of the largest areas; which is where Kate lived.

The headline is wrong. If the Republicans had 61 votes and failed to meet the 60 votes required, they could be blamed. The Democrats voted it down. Protecting their criminal voting base.

I usually like and defend Breitbart—but this article is deliberately misleading in both the headline and the meat of the article. True the Republicans have a majorioty in the Senate, but they don’t have the super-majority of 60 to pass bills under the clotchure rules of the Senate.
This writer is just trying to stir up crap against Republicans. when the real culprits are the Dems who couldn’t be persuaded to vote fore a bill that might rankle their voters. She didn’t mention that all the GOP members voted for it. She didn’t say that the Dems were the ones who killed it. because of their Latino immigrant supporters.

That is really bad journalism and extremely partisan coverup of the Dem failure to support laws that favor Americans over illegal immigrant aliens. I find it hard to bleieve that so many readers fell for this

Bad and irresponsible headline. The democrats are the ones who blocked it. Need 60 votes for cloture.
